gional president, Mrs. Morris
Cohen of Atlanta, as over 200 del-

in Charleston on May 7-10, at the
Frances Marion Hotel.
Mrs. Max Schenk, national
treasurer of Hadassah, member
of the national board for many

national advisor at the Confer-,
ence. Mrs. Schenk is an old friend
to many Hadassah members in
this part of the country.
Mrs. David Levin, past presi-
ent of the Southeastern region, is
conference co-ordinator. She said,
“Charleston has many outstand
ing speakers to present to the
delegations during those four ex
citing days. Workshops and plen
ary, as well as glamorous lunch
eons and real Charleston hospi
tality await delegates and guests.
Charleston is making big plans
for this Conference.”

Dispute Over Name
NEW YORK (JTA)—The Anti-
Defamation League of B’nai
B’rith, founded in 1913, and the
American Italian Anti-Defama
tion League, established a year
ago, are at odds over the use of
the term “anti-defamation” in the
names of the respective organ
izations, it was revealed here.
According to Civil Court Judge
Ross J. Di Lorenzo, president of
the Italian-American group, his
organization, like the older ADL,
would fight against anti-Semitism.
He said his organization has re
jected overwhelmingly a proposal
by the B’nai B’rith ADL that it
change its title to the “American
Italian League for Human
Rights.” He charged that many
writers for the mass media, which
use terms to which Italians ob
ject. are “of Jewish extraction.”
American Societies for Experi
mental Biology. The machine,
designed by Dr. Aharon Katzir-
Katchalsky, head of the Polymer
Research Department of the
Weizmann Institute, converts en
ergy in the same way as human
and animal muscles do.
The experimental machine,
which depends on the contraction
of synthetic polymers closely
comparable to muscle, sheds new
light on muscle action in the
human body. It also suggests pos
sibilities for future larger adap
tations.

E. W. Herndon and E. B. Craw
ford, presidents of the Blue Cross
Plans of North Carolina, in a
letter of agreement to Elbert E.
Levy, executive director, North
Carolina Jewish Home, appoint
ed the home as a facility to “fur
nish convalescent and long term
care to members of the Hospital
Care Association and Hospital
Savings Association entitled to
such benefits as described in cer
tificates issued and administered
by the two associations.”
This is one of the first Homes
in the country to be selected by
Blue Cross to furnish thesd* serv
ices, according to Morris Brenner
of Winston-Salem, vice president
of the North Carolina Jewish
Home. He indicated several large
industries are now including in
their hospital-medical plans, for
those employes who participate,
coverages that embrace extended
care after hospitalization; that is,
convalescent and long term care
for those employees who require
medical care beyond hospitaliza
tion.
Levy, who has many years ex
perience with hospital and long
term facilities, stated that this
was a major breakthrough lead
ing to a better understanding be
tween third party payors (insur
ance companies, private welfare
pension funds, etc.) qualified
Homes for the Aged and other
qualified Ipng term care facilities.
He remarked that in past years,
while payments were forthcoming
from some insurance companies
for covered patients, the detail
leading to qualification and rec
ognition prior to the receipt of
such payment discouraged many
long term facility administrators
and their patients from proceed- .
ing beyond the initial filing state.
Mr. I. D. Blumenthal, Charlotte,
president of the North Carolina
Jewish Home, offers his congratu
lations to Mr. Herndon and Mr.
Crawford for their foresight in
planning for the care of Amer
ica’s kofefs in this great, med
ical care world.
