mated 130,000 persons attended
the dedication. But Jews pointed
out that “it was a dedication, not
a consecration.”
Only one of the official speak
ers, Robert Weitz, a French Jew
and president of the International
Auschwitz Committee, mentioned
the Jewish martyrdom here,
noting that most of the victims
at Auschwitz were Jews, No refer
ence to Jews was made in a long
address delivered during the cer
emonies by the principal speaker.
Polish Prime Minister Josef Cyr-
ankiewicz, himself a survivor o 1
Auschwitz. Most of his 40-minute
oration was devoted to the resur
gence of neo-Nazism in West
Germany. The speech by Mr.
Weitz, who did mention the Jews,
was delivered in French, and was
not translated into Polish.

Two Rabbis Added
To Catholic Faculty
WASHINGTON (JTA) — Two
rabbis will be added to the facul
ty of Georgetown University for
the first time next fall, officials
of the nation’s oldest Catholic-
college announced. They said two
Protestant clergymen also would
be named to the faculty. The-Jew
ish spiritual leaders are Rabbi A.
Nathan Abramovitz of Tifereth
Israel Congregation here and
Rabbi Albert Silverman, a form
er Illinois University instructor.
Warsaw Remembers
Ghetto Uprising
WARSAW (JTA)— A number
of delegations from foreign coun
tries who came to Poland for the
unveiling of the Auschwitz Mem
orial, participated in Warsaw in
ceremonies marking the 24th an
niversary of the Warsaw Ghetto
uprising. It was during Passover
in 1943, that vastly superior Nazi
forces opened an attack aimpd at
annihilating the Jewish popula
tion of the ghetto. The Jews
resisted and held out for five
weeks against determined at
tempts by Nazi troops and armor
to crush the enclave.
In the 'Ceremonies" Heft, the
delegations from various coun
tries were joined by thousands of
local Jews and non-Jews who
made their annual pilgrimage to
the memorial site of the ghetto
and laid wreaths at the memor
ial.
(Twelve memorial rallies com
memorating the martyrs of the
Warsaw Ghetto—six of them ar
ranged by the Workmen’s Circle
—were held in New York. One
of the meetings, held at the Stat-
ler Hotel, was addressed by Sen
ator Jacob Javits. Similar rallie's
were held in many other' Jew
ish communities throughout the
United States.)
. BONN (JTA) — Arab League
plans for resumption of diplo
matic relations with West Germ
any have foundered on three
points involving Bonn’s relations
with Israel, political circles here
revealed. They said the German
government has thus far rejected
Arab demands that (1) West Ger
many finance aid to Arab ref
ugees through direct payments;
(2) issue a written declaration of
Bonn’s policy toward Israel; and
(3) declare its attitude toward
Israel’s application for associate
membership in the European Ec-
on )mie Community.
The sources summarized thus,
the three days of talks between
Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger
and Foreign Minister Willy
Brandt, on the one hand, and the
Arab League’s secretary-general,
Abdel Halik Hassouna. All but
three of the 13 member states
of the .Arab League had severed
diplomatic relations with West
Germany two years ago after
Bonn had established diplomatic
relations with Israel. The excep
tions were Libya, Tunisia and
Morocco. Jordan reestablished its
diplomatic relations this year.
Mr. Brandt was understood to
have refused flatly to issue a
declaration vis-a-vis Israeli-Ger
man relations, stating that it was
not customary to issue a state dec
laration on German policy toward
other states. Regarding Israel’s
pending bid for Euromart associ
ate membership, Mr. Brandt re
portedly pointed out that the Is
raeli application is now pending
before the top commission of the
European Economic Community.
West Germany is one of the six
member states of the EEC.

Bueno. The appeal was widely
publicized in the Brazilian press.

the Treblinka and Sobibor death
camps in occupied Poland, has
