tion In the 1967 Student writing
edition of the Georgia English
Counselor. Michael Goodman’s
sonnet, “Summer Song,” was
among the 50 poems selected.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The
30 editors and publishers of
American English-Jewish news
papers, meeting in • a Jerusalem
hotel 150 yards from a Jordanian
village, adopted this week a
resolution at their 24th annual
convention assuring their support
to the cause of justice for the
embattled people of Israel dur
ing the Middle East crisis.
The convention of the Ameri
can Jewish Press Association,
meeting here despite State De
partment warnings to American
nationals to stay out of the Mid

As for U. S.-Israeli relations,
as the week came to a close,
Washington somewhat retreated
from the President’s commitment
made only a few days previously
to back up an open Gulf of Aqaba
with force — thus following the
French advice to Israel not to
force a showdown now. U Thant
also counselled playing for time. -
The big question for Israel now
is—how much can she count on
Washington and how much on
the UN?
One thing is certain: Jerusalem
will not allow Nasser to interfere
with Israeli shipping through the
Gulf. Such interference will
mean war.

worse. Philip Slomovitz of the
Detroit Jewish News, replying
for the delegates, said Aperiran
Jews would work together with
Israelis for victory in the cause
of justice.
