S. to Act For Permanent Mideast Peace Iraqi Troops Remain In Hussein’s Jordan JERUSALEM (WUP) — Thou sands of Iraqi troops, invited by King Hussein during the June war, continue to be stationed in Jordan as a sort of unwelcome “occupying force.” Their pres ence has given Israel added cause for alertness on the long fron tier. Temple Model Stolen NEW YORK (JTA) — A model of the Temple of Solomon, stolen from the House of Sages, an East Side synagogue, is being sought by police. The 3-by-5 foot replica, weighing more than 200 pounds, was described as “irreplaceable” by Rabbi Julius Newman, spiritual leader of the synagogue. the obligations or liabilities of any person, firms, association or corpora tion. 8. Meshulam Riklis, industrialist, was listed as acting chairman and (treasurer. Among other members are author James Mich- ener and Paul O’Dwyer, former New York City Councilman and long-time friend of Israel. The advertisement described Soviet rearmament of the Arabs Consider Plight Of Jews Detained In Moslem Countries JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel raised the issue of the plight of Jews in Arab countries in the aftermath of the June war, par ticularly in Egypt and Iraq, with Nils-Goran Gussing, United Na tions Secretary-General U Thant’s special representative for hu manitarian affairs, at a meeting here with Yosef Tekoah, the as sistant director general of Israel’s Foreign Ministry. Deep concern over the fate of the Jews in the Moslem countries was expressed at a meeting of the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament after motions were made to place the issue on the Parliamentary agen da by members of the Mapai- Achdut Avodah Alignment and by Gahal. Estimates of the number of Jews now under some form of detention in Arab countries range up to 6,000 with 4,000 still in Egypt. Hundreds of Jewish men are in Egyptian detention camps and their families live in fear of their lives. ORTHODOX RABBIS TALK IN JERUSALEM JERUSALEM (JTA)— Leading Orthodox rabbis from Israel, the United States and Britain con cluded a two-day conference here, designed to promote the solidarity of the Jewish religious forces around the world, examine common spiritual problems and discuss the possibility of Israell- Diaspora coordination in the re ligious field. Sponsored by Yeshiva Univer sity of New York, the confer ence included the participation, among others, of Prof. S. K. Mir- sky, of Yeshiva University; Rab bi Immanuel Jakobovits, chief rabbi of the British Common wealth; and Israel’s two chief rabbis representing the Sephardic and Ashkenazic communities. In the wake of the Arab-Israeli war and urged the United States to act to halt Russia’s use of “ag gressive militarism” in the area. Objectives of the committee cited in the statement included “full United States pressure to foster constructive plans for ec onomic and social development, assistance to refugees for their social and economic benefit “re gardless of political frontiers . establishment of adequate inter national arms shipments control; and American use of all “its weight and influence” to achieve “cessation of continuing hostil ity of the Arab nations against Israel.” Mount Scopus Site Of Truman Center JERUSALEM (WUP)—Former President Harry S. Truman has had his wish and dream ful filled—of having the Peace Cen ter named after him erected on the height of Mount Scopus in East Jerusalem. An official of the American Friends of the Hebrew Univer sity announced that the organi zation sponsoring the Harry S. Truman Peace Center has now decided to build the three-and-a- half-million dollar edifice on the original site of the Hebrew Uni versity.
