UNITED NATIONS, N. Y.
(JTA) — Secretary-General U
Thant reported here that his per
sonal representative, who gather
ed factual information regarding
Israel’s unification of Jerusalem,
has found the outward conditions
fairly normal in East Jerusalem.
Mr. Thant made his report to
the emergency special session- of
the General Assembly, which re
cessed in July and was sched
uled to reconvene for its final
meeting. The special body, wnich
is comprised of all members of
the United Nations, is expected
to pass on the report to the reg
ular Assembly. Mr. Thant’s re
port—a 78-page document—was
based on a report filed by his
personal representative for Jer
usalem fact-finding, Ambassador
Ernesto Thalmann, a Swiss diplo
mat, who spent two weeks in Jer
usalem.
While observing that the out
ward appearance of Jerusalem
was calm and appeared normal,
Mr. Thalmann also reported that
many Arab personalities had
given him petitions, memoranda
and statements indicating seri
ous opposition to Israel’s civil
rule over East Jerusalem. He also
reported that there was wide ac
ceptance of Israel’s principles,
granting free access to all holy
places in Jerusalem to all religi
ous persons. However, he found
Moslem religious leaders totally
dissatisfied, and he reported that,
on the whole, the Catholic
Church, as embodied in the Vat
ican, still insisted that Jerusalem
must constitute a “corpus sep
aratum.”
The Israeli authorities, whom
he found very cooperative, re
ported Ambassador Thalmann,
stated unequivocally that the
process of integration of the “uni
fied city was irreversible and not
negotiable.” The Israeli author
ities— including Prime Minister
Levi Eshkol, Foreign Minister
Abba Eban and Israeli Cabinet
members responsible for econom
ics, social welfare and religious
affairs, “make it very clear,”
stated Mr. Thalmann, “that Is
rael was taking every step to
place under its sovereignty those
parts of the city which were not
controlled by Israel before June
1967.”
The Ambassador reported that
Israel had already started to ap
ply Israeli laws to East Jerus
alem, although implementation of
some laws had been delayed by
the Israelis until Arab texts of
those measures are ready for dis
tribution to the Arab residents.
Minister Explains
Attitude of India
WASHINGTON (JTA)— India
has not had normal relations with
Israel because it did not want
to “create tensions in the Middle
East,” New Delhi’s Deputy Prime
Minister Shri Moraji Desai, said
here. To avoid “greater tensions”
in the region, he stated, “we
have adopted the line we adopt
ed.”
Mr. Desai, who is also India’s
Finance Minister, spoke at the
National Press Club, where he
made these statements in reply
to questions regarding India’s at
titude toward Israel. India has
no diplomatic relations with Is
rael. During the United Nations
debates on the Middle East crisis
last summer and spring, India
followed the anti-Israeli, pro-
Arab policies of the Soviet and
Arab blocs.

Young Judaea Asks
Sponsorship
Bp Hadassah
NEW YORK— Young Judaea,
the oldest and largest Zionist
youth movement in the United
States, has formally requested
the sponsorship of Hadassah, the
Women’s Zionist Organization of
America. This was announced by
Bernard Weisberg, national di
rector of Young Judaea.
Mr. Weisberg said that the ac
tion was taken to implement a
resolution approved at the recent
August 28 Young Judaea conven
tion at Camp Tel Yehudah, Bar-
ryville, New York.
The resolution, now made pub
lic for the first time, received
overwhelming approval of the
delegates. It was predicated upon
the imminent dissolution of the
American Zionist Youth Commis
sion through which Hadassah, in
partnership with the Zionist Or
ganization of America, had spon
sored Young Judaea since 1941.
More than 250 delegates, rep
resenting Young Judaea’s 10,000
members in Its 20 regions from
coast to coast, participated in the
convention. -J Young Judaeans
range in age from nine to eigh
teen years.
Gromyko Cited
As Possible
Instigator of War
WASHINGTON (JTA) — An
drei A. Gromyko, the Foreign
Minister of the Soviet Union,
may have “engineered” Egypt’s
decision last spring to go to war
with Israel, according to Wash
ington’s last envoy to Cairo.
Richard H. Nolte, named U. S.
Ambassador to Cairo last March,
but never working at the post
since he he had not had the op
portunity of presenting his letter
of credence, said here that it was
reasonable to speculate that Mr.
Gromyko's visit to Cairo last
March had had a hand in trig
gering the confrontation with Is
rael.”
The USSR, he said in an in
terview here, had apparently
told Nasser that Israel would at
tack Syria in May, and had en
couraged Nasser accordingly to
prepare militarily for action
against Israel. Mr. Nolte officially
resigned from his abortive post
last week.

By this time you know we do many-many types of property repairs. No job too small.
Today I would like to talk to you about one of them. Cracks around your bath tubs. Small
as the cracks may appear a great deal of water goes under and down the back and sides of
tubs damaging the unseen wood on walls and f loors, also ceilings below, if your home has two
'stories. In addition to water damage the cracks harbor germs that get into your bath water.
I would like to ask you, will you please not try to repair these cracks yourselves. Many
people do and after failing CALL “DOC” REDDEN. Whatever you have applied to the cracks
and on tub most times is very difficult to remove causing unecessary work and time before
we can get to the original problem. Extra care must be taken to try not to damage tub or
tile. At best, repairing cracks around hath tubs by men experienced as we is a very hard
and tedious job. We have the know-how from years of experience, we have the correct
materials, and the proper tools and when we have finished the job the area is secure and
beautiful once again.
