Never before has the editor of
this periodical had to make so
agonizing a personal choice as
whether to include so many
photographs of himself in print.
Ordinarily, the decision would
automatically have been "no."
We have consciously pursued a
policy of not turning this into a
personal medium—tor himself or
anyone else. However, so much
adhered to the factors about the
occasion featured in this issue
that he overruled personal mod
esty in the interest of readership
sharing. Since the delegation he
headed as national president of
American Jewish newsmen
brought the only morale boost
from the outside to the Jewish
nation, who is to say exactly what
effect this encouragement had at
a most psychological moment in
Israeli history? This aspect indeed
was stressed by the Israelis them
selves—not by the newsmen. Res
ult was an unexpected and stag
gering opportunity for which the
American newsmen were humbly
grateful.
