Agency
Continued from page 9
of the new agency, issued the fol
lowing statement:
“The Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Federation, Inc., the new central
agency for the Jewish commun
ity of Atlanta, has been formed
by the merger of three agencies,
the Atlanta Jewish Community
Council, Jewish Welfare Fund
and the Jewish Social Service
Federation. This new agency will
combine the purposes and pro
grams of these former agencies.
“Since early in 1965, a study
committee representing the three
agencies had been reviewing
their individual programs as well
as the structure of other com
munities. Their completed study
has enabled Atlanta to develop
the kind of central organization
which will meet the present and
fixture needs of the total com
munity.
"The oldest merging agency,
the Jewish Social Service Fed
eration, had its origin in an or
ganisation formed In 1905, which
was known as the Federation of
Jewish Charities. As the com
munity grew, the need for other
aomm unity services developed.
The Jewish Welfare Fund was
organised in 1936 to consolidate
all fund-raising under its aus
pices, and the Jewish Commun
ity Council was subsequently
organised in 1945 to deal with
community relations issues.
‘Wow, more than 60 yean
later a unified central communal
agency has evolved which will
deal with all mattera concerned
with the total Jewish commun
ity. The reorganisation of the
former three agencies Into one
overall central agency has en
abled the community to develop
A more cohesive structure and
wffl enable the community to
Amotion more effectively with
<R Ms varied programs in the
areas of social services, commun
ity relations and fand-ralsing.”

Goldstein, Dr. Irving Greenberg,
