Dr. William Daitch, chairman, presenting B’nai B’rfth Youth Com
mission’s “Distinguished Service Award” to Mrs. Marshall Solomon
in recognition of her record as coordinator of BBYO for B’nai B’rith
Women of Atlanta. Mrs. Solomon, who was a member of BBG herself
In Houston as a young girl, was also advisor to GG BB-Chaverim.
Currently she is a vice president of the Atlanta BBW chapter in
charge of BBYO and Hlllel activities.

named a delegate to the 117th
annual national convention of
True Sisters to be held in New
York October 29—November 1.
The order, founded in 1846,
adopted service to cancer sufferers
hi its centennial year. Since 1946,
more than a half-million dollars
has been given to provide free
radio isotope treatment to med
ically indigent cancer patients
and other purposes.
In addition to participation in
the national project, the Atlanta
Lodge renders service to the
American Cancer Society locally,
and gives once-a-month parties
at Fairhaven School for Retard
ed Children.

Gets Long Sentence
JERUSALEM (JTA)—A mil
itary tribunal in Ramallah pro
nounced a 25-year sentence on
Raad Salman Khatib, an Arab
from Aubudis village, near Jer
usalem, who was convicted of
shooting at a civilian vehicle and
a police patrol last August 24.
The sentence was considered
lenient inasmuch as the prosecu
tion had demanded life impris
onment and the law allows the
death penalty for the crime.

a past president of National Ha
dassah has numerous outstanding
achievements to her credit. As na
tional chairman lor Israel Bonds
and for the Chagall Exhibit she
was instrumental in arranging for
the services of Marc Chagall
which resulted in the creation of
the twelve world-famous stained
glass windows adorning the syn
agogue at the medical center in
Jerusalem.
In her capacity as vocational
education chairman, Dr. Freund
played a vital role in the spec
tacular growth of Hadassah’s vo
cational school system in Israel.
As a teacher and lecturer In
New York City schools, Dr.
Freund developed a deep-felt in
terest in youth problems and be
came chairman of National
Youth Activities and co-chairman
of the American Zionist Youth
Commission.
Since the establishment of the
State of Israel in 1943, Dr.
Freund has completed more than
thirty trips to that country.
Through her personal efforts and
resolute actions, she was priv
ileged to share the credit for
some of the monumental successes

ed in several European, Asian,
and African countries to carry out
important missions for the rescue
and relief of underprivileged
Jewish children and their rehab
ilitation in Israel.
In the field of literary activity,
Dr. Freund has made numerous
contributions to various publica
tions, books, and magazines on
Jewish education end Jewish life.
Among other items, she is the
author of “Jewish Merchants in
Colonial America” end “Jewels
for a Crown." Dr. Freund rep
resents Hadassah on the Confer
ence of Presidents of American
Jewish Organizations.
Mr. Gordon added that this meet
ing, which is open to the public
without charge, is in the nature
of a community forum and will
be followed by a question-and-
answer period as well as by a so
cial hour with refreshments.
The program for the evening
also includes a selection of He
brew songs presented by the
Chorus of the Central Hebrew
High School under the direction
