“Israel: A many-faceted jewel”
has been chosen as the central
theme of the 1967-68 cultural
series of the Ahavath Achim Mr.
and Mrs. Club.
Speakers for the opening meet
ing will be Amnon Gil-Ad, di
rector, Southern Region, Israel
Government Tourist Office. The
meeting will be held at 8:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Diamond,
82 Blackland Rd., N. W.
Mr. Gil-Ad’s topic will be "Uni
queness of Life in Israel” and his
presentation will include some
slides taken of Israel after the re
cent war, including Old Jerusa
lem.
Mr. Gil-Ad came to Israel in
1948 from Europe and shortly
thereafter joined the Israel De
fense Forces, serving in the tank
oorns. After his discharge, the
Gil-Ads moved to Ramat Gan,
where he joined the Tenth An
niversary Committee planning in
dependence celebrations through
out the world. He transferred to
the Tourist Office and in 1962
was appointed assistant director
of the West Coast, and in 1965
came to Atlanta.
David Rivlin, deputy director
of the British Commonwealth Di
vision at Israel’s Foreign Mini
stry in Jerusalem, and former
Consul-General of Israel in Mon
treal, Can., will accompany Mr.
Gil-Ad to the meeting to com
ment on current happenings in
Israel.
For Pre-Thanksffiving
The Progressive Club in At
lanta will have a formal evening
of entertainment on Wednesday
night, Nov. 22, the night before
Thanksgiving. Featured will be
four young Greek-Americans who
gained fame as the Four Coins.
George Doemer, who oomes from
Savannah, and his orchestra,
will play for dinner and dancing.
