War Soon Unlikely,
Eban Declares
JERUSALEM (JTA) — There
is no reason to believe war will
resume in the next few months
Frreiim Minister Abba Eban told
the Knesset in summing uo dur
ing a foreign policy debate.
When the transition to peace is
achieved, this will mean pro
gress and not withdrawal, he
stated. Holding on to the new
territories may be a necessity,
but it is not Israel’s ultimate
poal he asserted, pointing out
that the problem is not the
territories, but their population.
Mr. Eben stressed that the dia
logue with France is continuing,
but he said that whoever sends
arms to Iraq bolsters the
strength of the forces aligned
against Israel. Iraq has 20,000
soldiers near the cease-fire line
inside ✓Jordan, he said, and
Iraqi officers train saboteurs
who are infiltrating Israel. The
foreign -minister also said that a
fruitful relationship with the
United States in continuing.

Must Exchange Views
Says Pincus of WZC
LONDON (JTA)— Louis Pin
cus, ohairman at the Jewish
Agency Executive, said in an ex
clusive interview with the Jew
ish Telegraphic Agency here that
the nexit World Zionist Congress
to be held in Jerusalem, must
-“ahart the way ahead for the
Zi^ist movement,” an issue that
is quite distinct from the move
ment’s structure which he, per
sonally, does not think needs al
tering. He asserted that the open
ing of the Congress in Jerusalem,
originally set for February, 1968,
was postponed because “a little
more time is needed for reflection
and exchange of views” among
all Zionist groups ‘‘on such baste
issues as the structure of the
Zionist movemenlt”
Gruening Offers
Three-Point Plan
NEW YORK (JTA) — United
States Sen. Ernest Gruening,
Alaska Democrat, urged the
United States government to in
augurate a “three-proneed pol
icy” to bring about peace in the
Middle East, “not only in its own
best interests but in the inter
est at peace throughout the
world.” The points advocated by
Sen. Gruening were:
(1) Entering into a mutual se
curity treaty with Israel; (2) To
give whatever arms are needed
to Israel to even its military de
fense strength in the light of So
viet determination to supply arms
to the Arab nations “in ever-
increasng amounts”; and (3) To
buttress Israel’s determination
not to give up any territory oc
cupied by the Six-Day War un
less and until, “at the very least,”
the Arab nations declare “unmis
takably” that they are no longer
at war with Israel and are willing
to negotiate directly with Israel.
COOPERATION
An ieffort is being made for
closer cooperation between the
Arab part of Nazareth and the
Jewish part. The Offioe for Arab
Affairs in the Prime Minister’s
Office organized a joint airtrip
by Arkiah (Israel’s inland air
line) for the Mayors and the
' Councillors of the Arab Munici
pality of Nazareth and the Mayor
and Councillors of the Upper
Nazareth Municipal Council. A
festive Luncheon was given the
travellers at the Queen of Sheiiba
Hotel in Eilat and it is hoped that
this trip will make for better
understanding and closer cooper
ation between the Jews and the
Arabs of Nazareth.
THE SHEKEL AGAIN
Member of Knesset, Zalman
Abramov, of Gahal, has request
ed that the Israeli Pound be
changed to be called the “Shekel.”
Mr. Abramov explained that the
word “Shekel” is an ancient word
not only for coin but is also
Hebrew.
PLEASE SING FOR MEI
Yaffa Yarkoni is a well-known
Israeli folk singer. In Israel she
is known as a “singer of three
wars.” Shfe sang to the soldiers
of the ar of Liberation, the Sinai
Campaign and again now during
and after the Six Day War.
One day, when she was cm her
way home after a late perform
ance, she stopped at a gas sta
tion near Bedth Shean and asked
to be allowed to pay by check.
The attendant pointed to a sign
which read: No checks accepted.”
The singer told him: “You don’t
have to ,worry, my checks are
good, I am Yaffa Yarkoni.”
"Oh,” said the attendant, I
know your voice well from the
radio. Please sing something for
me?!” This is the reply he re
ceived: “If I would ‘sing some
thing’ for IL. 25, I would not be
Yaffa Yarkoni." He ecqtpted her
check.
