Sam Israel
Dies at 82
Samuel B. Israel, 82, a prom
inent West Blockton, Ala. merch
ant and fattier of WSB Radio
General Manager Elmo Ellis,
died Thursday morning, Decem
ber 21, folowing an extended
illness.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, Dec. 24, at Ridout’s
Chapel, Southside, in Birming
ham. Burial was in the
Knesseth Israel cemetery in
Birmingham.
A lifetime resident of West
Blockton, Mr. Israel was a mem
ber of the Masonic Lodge for
more than sixty years and was
a former Worshipful Master.
Last year he was honored at a
Masonic ceremony during which
his portrait was hung in the
Lodge Hall. An active civic
leader, Mr. Israel was a former
Exalted Ruler of the West Block -
ton Elks Lodge and former Chief
of the Volunteer Fire Depart
ment.
Survivors also include one
daughter, Mrs. Bernerd Caplan,
Philadelphia, two sisters, Mrs.
Joe Sachs, Bessemer, Ala. and
Mrs. I. Nathews, Birmingham,
two brothers, Julius Israel,
Riverside, Conn, and Oscar
Israel, Lenoir, N. C.; and four
grandchildren.
Louis Taffel
Louis Leo Taffel 55. of At
lanta, president and chairman of
the board of Fulton Equipment
Co., died December 26.
Mr. Taffel was a native of At
lanta. He had been president of
the company, founded by his
father in 1924, for 25 years.
Mr. Taffel was past president
of Beth Jacob Synagogue and
was a member of the Progres
sive Club and the American
Scrap Dealers’ Institute.
Funeral services were held
December 27 at Green Lawn
with Rabbi Emanuel Feldman
and Cantor Pincus Aloof offi
ciating. Burial was in Crest
Lawn Memorial Park.
The family requested that in
lieu of flowers, donations be
made to Beth Jacob Synagogue
or to the American Cancer So
ciety.
Survivors include his wife, the
former Bessie Berinhout, a son,
Larry Taffel, Atlanta; three
daughters, Mrs. N. Jerold Cohen
and Miss Gail Taffel, both of
Atlanta, and Mrs. David Gold-
farb, Pittsburgh, Pa.; four sis
ters, Mrs. Tony Gersh and Mrs
Paul Leiter, botfi of North
Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Byron
Roberts, Beverly Hills, Calif.,
and Mrs. Harry Lehrer, Los An
geles, Calif., and a brother, Mike
Taffel, Atlanta.

, ANDERSON, S.C.—David D.
Danneman, 48, of Anderson died
December 26.
Funeral services for Mr. Dan
neman, a native of Macon, were
held December 27 at Sullivan-
King Mortuary here.
Survivors include his wife, the
former Sara Rosenblum; two
sons, Philip and Jeffrey Danne
man, and a daughter, Miss Myla
Danfieman, all of Anderson, and
six brothers, Milton, Fred, Mar
cus, Edward, Julius and Larry
Danneman, all of Atlanta.
Mrsi'Tir B. Steinsapir
Mrs. Libbie B. Steinsapir died
December 15, and was buried in
Pittsburgh, Pa. She is survived
by a son, Irving Steinsapir of
PittstTnrgh, and a sister, Mrs.
Harry Iteld of Atlanta.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, Mrs.
Bessie Goldberger, 74, of Miami
Beach died. A native of New York
City, she lived in the Miami area
for the past 20 years. She is sur
vived by her husband, Herman
Goldberger, Miami Beach; three
sons, Paul Allan of Fullerton,
Calif.; Milton Garrett of Orange,
Calif.; and Maurice Gerretf of
Tampa; a brother, Edward Cohn,
Miami Beach; and two sisters,
Mrs. Ida Monstedn, Miami Beach;
and Mrs. L. Phillips of Terre
Haute, Ind.

Meany, president of the AFL-
CIO, will visit Israel next year
at the invitation of Aharon
Becker, secretary-general of
Histadrut, Israel’s labor federa
tion, who just returned from a
six-week tour of the United
States, Canada and Latin
America. Mr. Becker was a guest
qf Mr. Meany at the AFL-CTO
convention in Miami, Florida
earlier in December.
