Who guides
the Guides?
Or perhaps It would be fairer to ask, "What Guides the
Guides?” No matter. There is a spirit abroad now in Israel that
goes beyond maps and books and the words of guides. It is the
spirit of a land where the places that have made the Holy Land
holy have been brought together. One can find these places on a
map. In disparate tourist guides. In legends. And in the Holy
Scriptures of all the religions that call this land sacred. The Tomb
of Rachel, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the gold-domed
Mosque of Omar. Bethlehem. Mount Scopus. The Vqjley of Kid-
ron. The Damascus Gate. The Wailing Wall and the entirbOld
City of Jerusalem. •
These are no longer the scattered and inaccessible goals of
pilgrims and tourists. An Israeli guide can take you to them and
make them live once more.
And an Israeli airline can take you to this land. Us. For we
live there. And no one flies there as often as we do. Either dire^^j
from New York, we’ve got the only nonstop flights Jit
tdTel Aviv, or from 13 European cities. In fafr, no I ““I

Push-Button
Groceries
Coming Up
Bread Basket
Ready to Open
The Bread Basket, the world’s
first push-button grocery service
center opens next week ait 2197
Cheshire Bridge Road, N. E., at
Woodland Avenue.
Termed the most radical de
parture in grocery shopping in
30 years the Bread Basket en
ables shoppers to get groceries by
simply pushing buttons while at
the same time their oar is being
filled with Sinclair gasoline.
There are three strategically lo
cated ramps at this location. At
each window is a fully automated
selection panel containing over
half a hundred basic convenience
store items, such as bread, milk,
cigarettes, coffee, soft drinks,
awaiting selection.
The shopper punches the panel
for the items or items desired.
They are picked and priced au
tomatically and delivered in sec
onds — without your having to
leave your front seat. And at the
seme time, the oar tank caft^be
filled with gas, the oil checked
and added to. For convenience a
Sinclair credit card will be ac
ceptable.
Open daily from 7 a. m. to 7
p. m., the Bread Basket will stock
cigarettes, beer, bakery items,
washing machine items, cheese,
sugar, frozen juice, soft drinks,
soups—and a host of other fa
miliar items.
Developed by an Atlanta man,
the idea has drawn such atten
tion there are already demands
for franchises. John H. Hitchins,
president of Store Services and
the originator, says simply, “We’re
proceeding slowly in this re
gard.”
The public will have a go at
the new idea on January 5.
