guest speaker at the installa
tion banquet of Atlanta Lodge
No. 1773 of B’nai B’rith Wed
nesday, Oct. 9. The installation
festivities will be held at Beth
Jacob Synagogue, 1855 La Vista
Rd., N. E. The dinner, which
begins at 7:30 p. m., will be pre
ceded by a champagne social
hour commencing at 7:00 p. m.

LA Jewry Celebrates
LOS ANGELES (JTA)— One
hundred and fourteen years of
organized Jewish life in Los
Angeles will be commemorated
Sept. 29 when a State of Cal
ifornia historical marker will
be dedicated at the site of a
Jewish burial ground granted
to the Hebrew Benevolent So
ciety in 1885, one year after its
founding as the first charitable
organization in the city.

Lt. Gov. Smith, a native Geor
gian, lives in Cairo, Ga. In 1958
he defeated two opponents to
become Grady County’s Repre
sentative in the Georgia House of
Representives, where he ulti
mately was appointed chairman
of the powerful Appropriations
Committee. He was highly in
strumental in formulating Geor
gia's present budget laws. In
January 1963 the Grady County
Democrat was elected Speaker
ot the House, and was reelected
in 1965 and 1966.
In May 1966 Smith entered
the race tor Lt. Governor. The
September primary oi mat year
placed him in a runoff election
with the tnen Lt. Governor,
Peter Lack Geer. Smitn won the
run-oft election by a majority
oi some 96,060 votes

integrity and ability, tne Lt.
Governor has presided over
such organizations as tne Na
tional Conference of State Leg
islative Leaders, the Council of
State Government and the Gen
eral Assembly of States.
Ben Rabinowitz, installation
banquet chairman, stated that
a large turnout is anticipated,
particularly in light of the dis
tinguished guest speaker. The
event is open to the public, and
reservations may be made by
calling Atlanta Lodge’s execu
tive secretary, Mrs. Jerome El
lison, at 875-6250. The cost of
the dinner (incl. taxes and tip)
is $6.00 per person.
Also included in the evening’s
program will be the installation
of the Lodge’s new Board of
Trustees, comprised of the fol

Potato and Carrot Pudding

POTATO AND
CARROT PUDDING
6 potatoes grated and drained
4 carrots grated
% cup of water
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons cracker meal
4 eggs, separated
4 tablespoons melted fat/butter
Cook grated carrots in % cup
of water 15 minutes. Do not
drain. Mix carrots undrained
with grated, drained potatoes,
egg yolks, salt, sugar and cracker
or matzoh meal, butter or fat.
Fold in egg whites beaten stiff
but not dry. Bake in a 350-degree
oven one hour. Serve hot.
VIENNESE
CHOCOLATE ROLL
Vi cup sifted flour
Vi teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
5 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
y 2 cup of any jam
Sift together twice, the sifted
flour, salt, cocoa and confection
er’s sugar. Beat 5 egg yolks until
lemon colored and fold sifted in
gredients into them. Beat 5 egg
whites stiff but not dry, and add
1 teaspoon vanilla. Fold into
egg mixture. Spread into jelly
roll pan (11 x 16) and bake in
a 350-degree oven 15 or 20 min
utes. If edges are hard, cut off
with a sharp knife. Turn out on
a damp cloth and roll cake and
a jelly roll. When cold or when
ready to serve, unroll and spread
with whipped cream into which
jelly has been folded. Fold up
again. When ready to serve, slice
cloth together the long way like cake.
