Meyer Balser, David Goldwasser
To Head 1969 Federation Drive
Meyer Balser and David Gold
wasser, two veteran campaigners,
were this week named oo-chair
man of the Jewish Welfare Fed
eration’s 1969 fund-raising drive.
Their selection was announced
by Abe Goldstein, Federation
president, and Milton Weinstein,
vice president of the Federation’s
Department of Campaign and Al
locations.
In making the announcement
earlier than ever before in the
history of Atlanta’s cross-section
al communal fund-raising efforts,
the two leaders said
“Appointment of the Balser and
Goldwasser team provides the
community with two very special
men who are both dedicated to
the service of their community
and the betterment of their fel
low man.
“Everyone with whom Meyer
and Dave come in contact
have the confidence of the many
men and women who make the
difference between a campaign
and a successful campaign. Both
men combine the traits of ex
perience, intelligence, and under
standing with a strong desire to
meet the community’s needs.”
With the sincere directness for
which both chairmen have earn
ed the respect of the community,
Balser and Goldwasser acknow
ledged the appointment with ap
preciation for the confidence
placed in them and gave the fol
lowing statement:
“We know that this is a real
job. It will be even more de

Or VeShalom Chooses Oct. 20
For Israel Bond Dinner
Congregation Or VeShalom will
once again hold its Bonds for
Israel Dinner, on Sunday even
ing, October 20, at the Congre
gation, at seven o’clock. The
theme of the dinner will be the
current celebration of the State
of Israel’s twentieth anniversary
of independence.
The dinner is under the joint
auspices of the Congregation and
the Atlanta Israel Bond Com
mittee, which reported an “un
precedented, record-breaking Is
rael Bond sales,” in June 1967,
under the chairmanship of Ralph
Benator and Jack De Leon as
co-chairmen. Currently serving
as the 1968 Chairmen, Benator
and De Leon led the Israel Bond
sale during last year’s Six-Day
War, when Bond sales doubled
over the previous year. It was
noted too, that the Congregation’s
own building fund begun in 1967
was deferred to enable a “total
Israel Bond sale in a crucial
week for Israel.”
An entertainment program will
be provided by Joey Russell, one
of America’s fastest rising young
comedians. The entertainer re
cently returned from a fact-find

Dr. Bregman has been active
in the field of Jewish education
for many years and has made an
outstanding contribution to its
promotion.
Bom in Atlanta, Dr. Bregman
attended Emory University where
he earned, cum laude, both his
B.A. and M.D. degrees. During
his years of study, he was the
recipient of many scholastic

al affairs. Beginning with the
central communal agency, whose
boards and committees have con
sistently enjoyed the benefit of
Dr. Bregman’s active participa
tion and invaluable advice, he
has been a member of the execu
tive committee and board of
governors of the Southeastern
Region of the Z.O.A.
In addition to the leading role
Dr. Bregman played in the foun
dation and promotion of the He
brew Academy of Atlanta, he
has made an impressive contri
bution to the growth of the At
lanta Bureau of Jewish Educa
tion whose president he became
in April, 1968.
Mr. Hirsch also explained that
13 courses in the various areas
of Jewish learning, including He
