New Plane to Help
Aviation Industry
TEL AVIV (WUP) — British
and other foreign experts cur
rently in Israel have expressed
high hopes for Israel’s fast-grow
ing aviation industry. They were
especially impressed with the
world’s first Israeli-designed
transport plane, the Arava., which
will take to the air this year,
Engineers and technicians are
working at full speed to meet the
new time-table—April.
Customers from as far as the
Philippines have indicated a
genuine desire and interest in the
$300,000 aircraft, which is not
only relatively inexpensive to
purchase but is expected to be
equally inexpensive to operate.
Early indications show that a
sizable market potential exists in
the U. S., where air taxi and
feeder line operations . are be
coming an increasingly important
aspect of civil aviation.
Golan Wages Upped
JERUSALEM (WUP) — The
Labor Ministry has announced
that the wages, social benefits
and old age pensions for the 6,500
inhabitants of the Golan Heights
have been brought up to the rates
prevailing in the rest of Israel.

Interfaith Aims
MILWAUKEE, Wise. (JTA) —
The president of a two million-
member Protestant denomina
tion warned here that the Arab-
Israel conflict in the Middle East
must not be permitted to injure
relations between Jews and
Christians in the United States
“no matter to which side our
sympathies may be directed.”
The Rev. Ben M. Herbster, of
New York City, speaking at the
ninth annual assembly of the
United Church of Christ, said,
“We must understand and sym
pathize with the earnest concern
of men for their co-religionists
whose Welfare and lives are
threatened by violence and the
possibilities of renewed warfare.”

Happy Ending
in Mayor’s Office
NEW YORK (JTA)—A 50 year
old former Moscow Rabbi and
his family were guests of Mayor
John V. Lindsay in City Hall.
They drank toasts of vodka to
mark the happy ending of a
poignant saga in which the
Mayor of America’s largest city
intervened directly with Soviet
Premier Aleksei N. Kosygin to
effect the reunion of two brothers
who had not seen each other for
28 years.
In June 1967, Mayor Lindsay'
read of the unsuccessful efforts
of a Brooklyn rabbi, Abraham
Birnbaum, to deliver a letter to
Premier Kosygin who was visit
ing New York. The letter asked
that Rabbi Bimbaum’s younger
brother, Shloma, who 'Spells b's
name Barenboim, in the Russian
style, be permitted to leave the
USSR • and come to the United
States.
A few days later, Mayor Lind
say wrote the Soviet Premier
that an elderly Brooklyn rabbi
had unsuccessfully sought his
help.

“This is a heart-rending tale of
human suffering like that experi

Lindsay wrote. “While there is
