nary flu,” bronchial pneumonia,”
colds and what have you, hit the
Sunshine City with a terrific jolt,
sending members into crowded
hospitals and confining others to
their homes under nursing care.
This columnist took a Paul Re
vere ambulance ride at midnight
and landed in St. Anthony Hos
pital where he was compelled to
remain for a week before being
sent home on the promise to do
nothing but rest for a week.
Oscar Ascher landed in Mound
Park Hospital where he remained
a full week following facial sur- ‘
gery. Pauline Zirinsky is back in
Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Har
riet Schlachter was rushed to
the Mound Park Hospital suffer
ing from a serious case of pneu
monia. Sophie Bresler, Ceil Mil
ler, Helen Birkhahn, George
Birkhahn, all home doing well.
Earl Birkhammer is in Largo
Hospital; Kate Tannenbaum in
Metropolitan Hospital. Minnie
Tiger and Rose Colen are still
confined to their homes. “Hos
pital Lane” it was a busy place
last week.
The illnesses that struck many
members of SF Club disrupted
for a week the rehearsals of
“School Daze,” the annual musi
cal show presented February of
each year. Ada Marx, writer and
producer of the production, has
had to substitute various players
as “the show must go on.” Re
tiring from the cast are OScar

Miss Shellie Winarski, a senior
at Savannah High School, has
been awarded a special piano
scholarship by the Kennen Foun
dation. The scholarship includes
tuition and music fees at Arm
strong State College. Miss Win
arski is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel K. Feinberg.
Irwin I. Mazo has been elected
to the board of directors of Tur
ner Advertising Co. of Atlanta.
Entertainment for the B’nai
B’rith Cadillac Affair, set for
8:30 p.m., February 22 at the
Alee Temple, will be provided
by singer Addie Neece. Dancing
will be to the music of Kahn
Kenne and the Savannah Six.

appears a sell-out is sure. The
performance will l>e given at a
matinee on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with
all proceeds going to the Jewish
Community Center
The ladies of the Jewish com
munity have been asked not to
throw away their discarded nylon
stockings, as arrangements have
been made for rehabilitation pa
tients in the hospital to stuff an
imals and dolls for the needy
children. Bessie Mark is in charge
of this wonderful work.
The final meeting of January
drew a capacity audience of 150
members, friends and guests as
they gave th VIP treatment to
Moe Levy, Henriette Tirk, Harry
Mermelstein, Theodore Heyman,
Harriet Miller, Ann Kaplan,
Henry Margolos, Manuel Lichen-
stein, Samuel Schneider on their
birthday.
Plans are being completed for
the Golden Circle celebration,
which will be held Thursday.
March 6, in which 23 couples,
all members of the SF Club, will
celebrate Golden Wedding anni
versaries from 61 years to 50.

The Jewish Community of
1500 families in St. Petersburg
has made an appeal to President
Nixon not to let the U. S. “turn
its back” on Israel in the de
teriorating Middle East power
struggle. The letter was sent by
Stanley Hunter, president of the
St. Petersburg Jewish Commun
ity Council. It said “The lives of
three million Israelis are threat-
ende-by ‘Arab nations who pledge
themselves with gory threats to
complete what Hitler had left un
done’.”

Temple Sisterhood prepared a
buffet supper on February 2 at
the USO for soldiers from Fort
Gordon. Mrs. Ix'opold Mothner
was in charge. Mrs. David
Wetherhom is president of the
group.
Mrs. Abram Korn and Mrs.
Jack Wyland were hostesses at
a recent meeting of the Ever
green Garden Club, held at the
home of Mrs. Korn. Officers for
the coming year are Mrs.

Mrs. Jack Ginsberg, rec. sec.;

The Augusta Players have an
nounced that Dr. Ben Bolgla will
direct the Neil Simon hit, “The
Odd Couple,” in May. Dr. Bolgla
is currently vice president in
charge of selecting plays and
public relations for the Players.

bloum of Atlanta announce the
birth of a 90n, Robert Aaron, on
January 28. The grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Neuhaus of
Atlanta and Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Rosenbloum of Miami Beach.

now living in Cincinnati, an
nounce the birth of a son, Asher,
on January 2. The grandparents

Former Augustan Mrs. Charles
(Bobby) Moss of Chicago has
been in town visiting her father,
David Rubenstein. Mrs. Moss,
a serious voice student, has ap
peared with the American Opera
Company, the Chicago Southside
Symphony, and numerous civic
and arts groups. The Menses have
two sons, Richard, II, and
Andrew, 6.
