1934, “Brotherhood Week” is not
isolated as the one week of the
year in which brotherhood
should be practiced — all weeks
of the year are times for brother
hood. The week is set aside as a
time for renewal of the individ
uals’ resolution which sustains
brotherhood throughout the year.
National Brotherhood Chair
man, Thomas Vail, said, “Bro
therhood is more than a word. It
is the Spirit that recognizes
the human dignity of every man.
It is the Effort we make to
help the individual achieve his
full potential. It is the Action
we take to insure equal oppor
tunity and liberty for all.”
The theme of “Brotherhood
Week 1969 is “Brotherhood Be
gins With You,” stressing the po
tential of the individual for mak
ing democracy work. The NCCJ
is confident that democracy can
be the way of life in our nation
without anyone denying his re
ligious, racial or cultural heri
tage.
Included in the week’s activi
ties was the presentation of the
‘Good Neighbor of the Year”
awards to ten outstanding Atlan
tans and one community organi
zation. In a public ceremony
Monday, February 17, in the
Aldermanic Chambers of City
Hall, 11:00 a.m., Vice Mayor Sam
Massell presented certificates to
the ten persons who were nomi
nated by their neighbors as
“Good Neighbors of the Year.”

Bonn Starts Action
Against Weekly
Racked by Nazis
BONN (JTA)—The West Ger
man Cabinet has authorized the
Ministry of Interior to start ac
tion to ban the neo-Nazi weekly
newspaper, Deutsche National
Zeitung and Soldaten Zeitung, ah
extreme right-wing organ that
has viciously attacked Israel. The
paper, published in Munich, ac
cused Israel of “genocide” in a
article last week. Israel formally
protested this and previous art
icles.
Legal proceedings against the
paper will be brought before the
Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe.
The Government will contend
that the paper “abuses freedom
of expression” in violation of the
Federal Constitution. The suit
will be the first Government at
tempt to ban a newspaper in the
220-year history of the Federal
Republic. The proceedings could
last several years. The paper has
a circulation of about 120,000. An
Interior Ministry official des
cribed its attacks on Israel as an
“unspeakable tasteless eonooc-
tion.”
