Campaign Activities
Rabbi Richard Lehrman of Temple Sinai in Atlanta visits residents in a be
leaguered Israeli Kibbutz in the Beit Shean Valley during the recent UJA fact
finding mission January 26 to February 2. During the trip Rabbi Lehrman and
Sam Eckstein, Atlanta, advertising agency executive, travelled the length and
breadth of the Jewish state, interviewing men, women and children, listening
to officials tell of the current imperatives facing the country. In the picture at
right, Rabbi Lehrman inspects the condition of the communal bomb shelter,
which literally is under constant bombardment from Jordanian guns. The Amer
icans inspected slit trenches, bunkers and underground bomb shelters .during
the trip.

GERSHON
is married and the father of two
boys and one girl.
Dr. Schatten is a well known
plastic surgeon. He received his
bachelor of science and M. D.
degrees from Emory University.
Dr. Schatten is a member of
many local, and national medical
and plastic surgical societies.
During 1968, he served as chair
man of the Ahavath Achim Con
gregation Israel Bond Drive. Dr.
Schatten is married and the fa- ,
ther of five children, three boys
and two girls.

nounced the appointment of Doc
tors S. Perry Brickman and Na
than Gershon as vice-chairmen
for the Division.
The newly appointed chairmen
stated that the annual Physicians
& Dentists Dinner will l>e held
Sunday, March 9, 6:30 p. m. at
the Progressive Club. The guest
speaker will be Miss Rina Kishon,
a dynamic and articulate Israeli,
who in her list of credentials
carries the title of "Miss Israel.”

Name Initial Gifts Chief
The Initial Gifts Division of the
1969 AJ^F com munity-wide
drive wiU be led this year by
three veteran campaigners, it was
announced this week by Meyer
Balser, general co-chairman of
the ’69 drive. Jack I. Freedman,
Stanley Rinzler and Mendel
Romm Jr. have accepted the
chairmanship for this major cam
paign division consisting of con
tributors from $500 to $1,000.

Leaders Are Designated
Mr. Eckstein discusses life in a
Beit Shean kibbutz with some
of the youngsters. The children
play and live as much as is prac
ticed with the barrier of sand
bags between them and the dan
gers lurking beyond the nearby
border.
The Physicians and Dentists
Division for the 1969 Federation
Campaign will be spearheaded by
Doctors Theodore Levitas and
William E. Schatten, it was an
nounced this week by General
Co-Chairmen Meyer L. Balser
and David Goldwasser.
Dr. Levitas is a prominent At
lanta dentist who previously
served as chairman of this pro
fessional Division. He attended
Emory University School of Den
tistry and did post graduate work
at that university. Dr. Levitas is
active in a number of profession
al and fraternal organizations. He
IJea Finkelstein Speaks
To Several Women’s Groups
Mrs. Beatrice Finkelstein (Mrs.
Max I.) of New York City was
in Atlanta February 19 and 20
as part of “Direction 1969,” a
program of campaign orientation
being planned under the direction
of the Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Federation’s Womens Division.
Mrs. Finkelstein is presently
administrative assistant to the
Executive Vice-President of the
Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds. She former
ly served as executive assistant
to the Commissioner of Welfare,
New York City; Director United
States Operations United Hias
Service; gnd Director Field Serv
ice, United Service for New
Americans.
She is a graduate of Syracuse
University; graduated Law
School, Fordham Univers i t v ;
and is an Alumnus New York
School of Social Work, Columbia
University.
Mrs. Finkelstein made speeches
before the Pace Setters and Ad
vance Gifts Committees of the
AJWF Womens Division at a
luncheon Thursday, Feb. 20, and
met with members of the
Women’s B&P committee at a

dinner that same evening. On
both Feb. 19 and 20. she met
with approximately 200 Atlanta
women who will serve as cam
paign associates in this year’s
drive. During ^ier stay in Atlan
ta, she met with several mens
divisions.

Mrs. Herman Heyman and Mrs.
A. A. Weinstein announced this
week the appointment of chair-
men for the top two Women's
Divisions.
Named to spearhead the Pace
Setters Division are Mrs. Nathan
Lipson and Mrs. Israel Wilen.
Pace Setters in the Womens Cam
paign consist of contributors of
$500 and up. Mesdames Ben Rice
and_ §eymour Weinberg were
named to co-chair the Advance
Gifts committee, a major division
for contributors of $250 to $500.
In announcing the selection,
Mrs. Weinstein stated - “Joseph
ine and I are especially pleased
to have four such competent and
lovely ladies working with us.
Our campaign is assured of suc
cess with this talented quartet.”
