Speaking Up For Arabs
By ROBERT E. SEGAL
(A Seven Arts Feature)
You have to give pro-Arab
propagandists and sympathizers
credit. They have succeeded in
inducing the Wall Street Journal
and the top brass in the Kremlin
to share the same similar views
on The Middle East. No small
achievement.

Reed Announces
For School BomI
Special to Southern Israelite
Atlanta dentist and civic leader,
I)r. Gerald Reed, has announced
his candidacy for the Board of
Aldermen. In the October 7 city
wide lace, Dr. Reed will seek the
fUh Ward Aldermanic post being
vacated by Rodney Cook.
Dr. Reed has been deeply in
volved in the civic life of At
lanta for nearly 15 years—par
ticularly in the area of human
rights. Sources close to the 44
year old dentist say that a size
able share of his time and in
come is devoted to causes con
tributing to the betterment of
mankind.
His civil rights activities over
the years have gained Dr. Reed
the friendship and respect of
many members of the Black
community. He has served as co-
chairman of the Negro Merit
Employment Co-ordinaitmg Com
mittee and as chairman of the
Employ ment Committee of
SCLC.
Dr. Reed served on the Board
of Directors of HOPE, Inc.—the
organization which worked to
keep the public schools open dur
ing the desegregation crisis. As a
board member of the bi-partisan
Active Voters, Dr. Reed support
ed the fight against the County
Unit System in order to give At
lantans fair representation in
State Government.
One of Dr. Reed’s most recent
efforts has been in providing fi
nancial assistance to Negroes
v/ho want to own their own busi
nesses.
A veleran of World War II
and the Korean Conflict, Dr.
Gerald Reed is commander of At
lanta Post 112, Jewish War Vet
erans of the United States. He
is a member of the Atlanta
Chamber of Commerce, the
American Dental Association and
is a former Jaycee. Dr. Reed

oil. But The Journal doesn’t
stop there. “What’s at stake in
the Arab Middle East specifi
cally is money—a lot of it,” the
Journal has concluded.
Nobody could be happier over
the publication of such tidings
than the members of the Soviet
establishment. Having lost a
huge arsenal in the Six Day War
in the Middle East, the Russians
have been busy ever since try
ing to win new allies for the de
feated Arabs. If the Journal edi
tors now choose to go down the
same road of anti-Israel cam
paigning selected some time ago
by Moscow, the association may
seem strange to many Americans
but the Russians naturally will
be loving it.
This appears to be only one of
a number of propaganda victor
ies rung up by the Arabs lately.
In recent weeks, the American
Jewish Committee has provided
a valuable service by compiling
a refresher course on the opera
tion of pro-Arab mechanisrhs.
Based on a study of meetings of
hundreds of Arab students in
America, the utterances of top
Arab spokesmen like Dr. Fayez
Sayegh, the output of the Arab
Information Service, the activi
ties of such old familiar bodies
as the American Friends of the
Middle East, efforts to gain fi
nancial and moral support for
Arab terrorists, and the high-
jinks of far right and far left
activists. The study deserves and
is getting wide distribution.
