Ed Krick New. Head Of
Atlanta Education Bureau
The election and installation of
officers of the Bureau of Jewish
Education was held recently at
the annual meeting. Dr. Herbert
Karp, chairman!
of the nominat-j
ing committee,!
presented the
lew slate and
then introduced
Mike Gettinger
who instal led,
the incoming of
ficers.
In his address,
Mr. Gettinger, ®
executive direc- Krick
tor of the Atlanta Jewish Wel
fare Federation, said that today,
not only Jewish values, but all
traditional values are being chal
lenged and that consequently, in
trying times such as these, in
dividuals who are not themselves
personally touched give little
more than lip service to the
enormous problems facing this
generation.
He went on to say that be
cause the Jewish people had in
the past, considered the Torah
as the origin of all values, it be
came for them not only a way of
life, but a guide for their be
havior and actions as well. But
unfortunately, Mr. Gettinger con
tinued, to the modern Jew the
contents of the Torah are a mys
tery—almost entirely unknown
much less observed. Therefore,
at this critical period in history,
it is imperative that the role of
Jewish Education become that
of teaching the wisdom of those
basic Judaic concepts, “for in
them can be found the answers
to the burning questions besett
ing mankind today.”
The Bureau of Jewish Educa
tion faces a great challenge, Mr.
Gettinger said, “for the relevance
of these age old concepts as well
as the true meaning and value
of Judaism must be transmitted
to our youth, for only then can
they gain an understanding of
its message and begin to relate
it to their everyday lives.” He
cited various examples of Ju
daic concepts as they relate to
the problems and questions of
the day.
The officers for the coming
years are Edward Krick, presi
dent; Ben Rabinowitz, Henry
Birnbrey, Josiah Benator, and
Dr. George Plutchok .vice pres
idents; Dr. Nanette Wenger, sec
retary; Sol Singer, treasurer;
and Dr. Larry Bregman, parlia
mentarian.
