Southern s Mansion Purchased
vcti ha-in--.
For Yeshiva High School
A stately Southern mansion
has been acquired at 1787 La-
Vista Road as the home of the
newly created Yeshiva High
School of Atlanta.
George Kaplan, chairman of
the Building Committee, an
nounced the purchase of the
Mashburn House this week.
The charming two-story brick
structure with lovely white col-
lumns once echoed to “you’alls”
and other Southern colloquial
isms familiar to family living in
this area.
The ‘‘you’alls” will still be very
much in evidence as classes get
underway this fall for Southern
Jewish youth. But there will be
a generous sprinkling of “todah
rabos,” and “los” and “kens”
as part of the instruction and
usage at least when youngsters
delve into Hebrew.
The house is located on three
acres of rolling wooded land.
There are a number of small
structures on the property, such
as a barn, a garage with an
apartment, and a smoke house.
Mr. Kaplan pointed out that the
location of the school could not
be more ideal; with transpor
tation at the door and a syna
gogue nearby.
The board of directors an
nounced the appointment of Tom
Fogwell as math teacher. Mr.
Fogwell is a doctoral candidate
at Emory ’ University and holds
a BA degree in math with hon
ors, a BS degree in chemical en
gineering and a Masters Degree
in math, all from the University
of Texas. He is active in inno
vative programs in math teach
ing, and has been a research
assistant in engineering at Uni
versity of Texas.
Other members of the staff
previously announced are Dr.
Judith Sophianopoulos, head of
the science department, who was
a fellow to the Sorbonne in Paris
end has a PhD from Purdud
University. James Hale, an
award winning teacher and
acting director of the Master of
Arts teaching program at Emory,
and who will be the coordinator
of the general studies program
of the Yeshiva.
The school’s dean and direc
tor is Rabbi Ben Zion Rose, an
outstanding educator and grad
uate of the Chicago Theological
College.
The Yeshiva has instituted a
“Founder’s Club” of contributors
of $1,000 or more which the
board points out, “will give the
donor the “opportunity of sup
porting Jewish education and of
being one of the prime movers
in what promises to be a great
Atlanta institution.”

Because when Carl Sanders was governor, we
accomplished something.
There was a practical, reliable approach to state
government.
There was an integrity, honesty and efficiency
that brought Georgia the respect of the country.
Education got sixty cents of the tax dollar. We built 6,000 new classrooms.
We hired 10,000 new teachers. We guaranteed, once and for all, a quality
education for every boy and girL
Strong, responsible leadership brought us together and kept us moving. New
highways and roads were built Old ones were repaired. Urban problems were
attacked forthrightly.
There was new prison reform. A new police academy. Better trained police .
officers. New industry, and with it, more jobs.
• Tax money was spent sensibly, carefully.
For the first time, we moved effectively against water pollutioa For the first
time, mental health was given unprecedented human and financial support
And for the first and last time, a Georgia governor left a surplus of over
140 million dollars in the State treasury.
No other governor ever did all this for Georgia.
And no other candidate for governor in 1970 possesses the same strength,
talent and experience to do it again.
Carl Sanders ought to be governor again.
