THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE
THE ATLANTA LEADERSHIP EXPERIMENT IN IS
RAEL, a group of 35 teenagers shown at the El AI Air
lines Terminal in New York on departure for a seven-
week study program in Israel. With them is Dr. Leon
Spotts, director of the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Educa
tion which developed the program in cooperation with
Atlanta Jewish congregations.
Participants and congregational affiliation are Laurie
Abrams, Beth Brown, Terri Hyman, Adam Messer,
Sherri Roberts and Robert Smulian from Temple Sinai;
Eddie Berger, Beverly and Joel Bregman, Stuart Hirsch,
Francine and Jonathon Schwarts from Beth Jacob; Debbi
Berkowitz, Lenore Bohm, Raymond Kuniarisky, Wendy
Lipshutz, Jan and Jay Levin, Dana Moses and Debbie
Shubin from the Temple;
Marcia Bloom, Aaron and Harry Eisenstein, Scott
Fisher, Richard Gershon, Freddie Krinsky, Jeffrey Pol-
stein, Michael Saul, Gordon Singer and Caryl Wild-
stein from Ahavath Achim; Debra Goodman from Shear-
ith Israel; Vicki Habif and Leon Harris from Or VeSha-
lom.
In addition, two students, Samuel Kaplan and Edward
Prystowsky, from Brith Shalom-Beth Israel in Charleston,
S. C., accompanied the group.
Besides extensive sightseeing, the program includes
classes in Hebrew, lectures cm the land and its people,
and meeting with important personalities.

Elects Rothman
Mrs. Edith Clein
Mrs. Edith Clein, 84, of At
lanta died Wednesday, June
30.
Funeral services were held
July 1 with Rabbi Harry H. Ep
stein and Cantor Isaac Good-
friend officiating. Interment was
in Greenwood Cemetery.
She was the former Edith
Levin of Lemerick, Ireland,
and was the widow of L. T.
Clein. She was a member of
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
Survivors include a son, Hy
man H. Clein; sister, Miss Annie
Levin; brothers, Isaac Levin
and Mike Levin, all of Atlanta,
three grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Joseph Hirsch
Mrs. Joseph H. Hirsch, 95, of
Atlanta died Wednesday, June
30.
Funeral services were held
July 2 in Westview Abbey with
Rabbi Jacob Rothschild officiat
ing.
Mrs. Hirsch was a resident of
Atlanta for 75 years.
Survivors include daughters,
Mrs. Eugene Oberdorfer Jr. and
Mrs. Eve Scholen, both of At
lanta; sister, Mrs. Ralph Wolf
of New York, and four grand
children.
Mrs. Al Mallach
Mrs. Al (Ruth L.) Mallach, 61,
of Atlanta, died Tuesday, July
0.
Funeral services were held
July 7 with Rabbi Harry H. Ep-
Bpetein officiating. Interment
was to take place in Oakhurst,
N. J.
Mrs. Mallach was the former
Ruth Lebwohl of New York
City.
Survivors include her hus
band, Al Mallach of Atlanta;
daughter, Mrs. Dorothy (Dee
Dee) Fein berg of Deal, N. J.;
son, Stanley Majladh of Mil
waukee; mother, Mrs. Rose
Lebwohl of Far Rockaway.N.Y.;
two sisters, Mrs. Doris Ruben-
stein of Heightstown, N. J.,
and Mrs. Louis Berlin of New
York City; two brothers, Robert
Lebwohl of Maasapequa Park,
N. Y., and Sidney Rapbail of
New York City, and two grand
children.
Joe Rothman of Rome has
assumed the presidency of the
Georgia State B’nai B’ritJi As
sociation for 1971-72. Mr. Roth
man was installed at the Geor
gia State Association Conven
tion recently held at Callaway
Gardens.
Guest speakers at the instal
lation banquet were Georgia
Governor Jimmy Carter and in
ternational B’rWi B’rith presi
dent Dr. William Wexler. Roth
man succeeds Morton Harris of
Columbus, who served as pres
ident during 1970-71.
Rothman is a graduate of the
University of Pennsylvania and
served in the United States
Army from 1940 until _ 1946
where, as captain, he, received
numeibus letters of commenda
tion for his work as production
control officer and coordinator
of maintenance and activities
for all services. He has lived in
Rome since his discharge from
the Army, where is the owner
of Rome Radio Co.
Having organized Rome’s
B’nai B’rith Lodge in 1947,
Rothman served as its first
president. He has also been
president of Rodeth Shalom
Synagogue in Rome, and is a
member of the board of direc
tors of the Rome Welfare Board,
which, includes the United
Jewish Appeal.
He is a member of the Mo.
