‘Lilly’ Grable
Opens TOTS
As ‘Dolly’
Broadway’ss longest running
musical, “Hello Dolly,” opened
the 19th annual summer season
of Theater of the Stars on July
13 at the Atlanta Civic Center.
Betty Grable, she of the gorg
eous gams, stars in the Atlanta
production as the nosey, push-
i n g , meddling, effervescent
marriage-broker determined to
match her most eligible client to
herself.
Miss Grable, while at 20th
Century Fox, set an all-time
record of a dozen straight years
on the list of ten top box-office
stars and eight straight years as
number one female box-office
star. On stage as Dolly Levi, she
led a record-shattering tour of
“Hello Dolly” in Las Vegas and
Chicago and played “Dolly” for
nine months on broadway.
The role of Vandergelder,
Dolly’s balky customer is played
by Mort Marshall. The hay and
feed merchant, a grouchy
fellow who tyrannizes his clerks,
has one undeniable virtue in
Dolly’s eyes. He is a "half-
millionaire.”
Dolly runs through Sunday,
July 18.
Opening Tuesday, July 20, is
Neil Simon’s “Plaza Suite,” star
ring comedian Paul Lynde.
Performances Tuesday through
Saturday are at 8:30 The Sunday

Hear Hebrew
Plays in English’,
All in Tel Aviv
The rich offerings of the leg
itimate Israel Stage have been
brought within the reach of non-
Hebrew speaking travellers in
Israel.
Tourists, who up to now have
been cut off from the seventeen
different plays performed in
Tel Aviv in the average week,
can now enjoy the plays with
full understanding, as a result
of a simultaneous translation
system recently installed.
The first theater to receive the
new system is the Habima
Theater in Tel Aviv. The trans
lation method utilizes a pocket-
size translation device and
since there are no wire attached
there are no restrictions on the
choice of seating.
Arrangements for individuals
can be made at ticket offices or
hotels in Israel. Arrangements
for groups can be made through
any Israel Travel Operator or
directly with Kenes, 30 Dizen-
goff St., Tel Aviv, Israel.
PRE-HERODIAN ERA
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Prof.
Nahman Avigad, head of an
archaelogical team, disclosed
that the remains of a pre-Hero-
dian building of “monumental”
proportions were uneart h e d
during excavations in the Jew
ish quarter of the Old City last
year. He said a column base
almost two yards wide was
found indicating that the struc
ture possessed columns at least
12 yards high, reminiscent of
the Hasnronean palace once
built in Jerusalem. According
to Prof. Avigad, such columns
were usually used in a temple
rather than a palace. King
Herod, a ruler of Judaea, lived
between 73-4BCE.
