The Metropolitan Atl a n t a
Chapter, American Red Cross
completes its move from 848
Peachtree Street to the new fa
cilities at 1925 Monroe Drive,
N. E., this week. The new Red
Cross Blood Center and Chap
ter Headquarters will be locat
ed on the lower level of an
8-acre tract owned by the Red
Cross from a number of years
and the site of the Southeastern
Area Headquarters.
According to W. B. Schwartz
Jr., chairman of the Atlanta
Blood Program and member of
the board of directors, the Red
Cross will be able to double its
capacity in the handling of
blood.
“The old blood center was
built 20 years ago and was
designed to handle a maximum
of 25,000 units of blood yearly.
For the past 10 years we have
been processing over 70,000 an
nually. With adequate facilities
the Red Cross can provide the

had offered aid to India? A
great deal of this was intended
to be in the area of medical
supplies especially cholera vac
cine to combat the fearful epi
demic now raging around Cal
cutta.
Rafa Laboratories, which
plays a major role in Israel’s
own health services and is the
nation’s sole producer of vac
cines, last year shipped a large
amount of cholera vaccine to
Nigeria, Zambia, Turkey and
other countries afflicted with
dread disease. Scientists
lere are now engaged in de
veloping new immunological
methods in the non-biological
field.
It may be jumping from the
sublime to the ridiculous but
another profitable product of
Israel’s chemistry-based indus
tries is vegetarian shnitzels.
They are purported to look like
meat, Taste like meat, have the
same protein value as meat, cost
a third to half as much, con
tain no fat and come in at least
six delicious flavors including
ham. Also they are easy to pre
pare.
Shefa Protein Industries Ltd.,
of Arad, makes them, using a
specially processed soy base, and
markets them under the name
SVP which stands for Struc
tured Vegetable Protein. Intro-
ducatory promotion has been
through a program of institu
tional sales to schools, hospi
tals, kibbutzim, factories and
restaurants. Now an experimen
tal order of 10,000 has been
shipped to a firm in Houston,
Texas.
With all those cattle ranches,
can you imagine Texans eating
beef-flavored ersatz shnitzels
from Israel? We hope they will.
Anyhow, it’s better than ham.

tells accurately the stage of the local tide.
Tides of the economy ebb and flow,
but you can tie to one sure value:
i
electricity.
Price is what yon pay for what you get. Throughout
the history of the electric industry the trend in the
price of electricity has been downward. In the past
10 yean, for example, our average price per residen
tial Idlowatt-hour has dropped almost 16 percent
Yon know what’s happened to the prices of other
goods and services.
Value is what you get for what you pay. For two
cents’ worth of electricity you can brew 50 cups of
©offee. Or toast 100 slices of bread. Or wash eight
loads of clothes. That’s getting your two cents’ worth
— and more. Much more.
No man can tether time or tide. The economy
waxes and wanes. Prices rise and fall. Through the
yean, ours, too. But electricity remains a value. The
bigfnt bargain in your family budget. By far.
