B’nai B’rith Urges U.S.
Honor Commitment to Israel
NEW YORK (WUP) — The
President of B’nai B’rith, David
M. Blumberg, and Anti-Defama
tion League chairman Seymour
Graubard, have called upon the
United States to give the go-ahead
sign for the immediate resump
tion of deliveries of Phantom
jets to Israel.
In a joint statement the two
Jewish leaders charged that re
ports of American refusal to
sell the jets is “endangering
peace in the Middle East and
playing into the hands of the
Soviet Union.” They asserted
that the State Department is
“dangerously shortsighted if it
believes that the way to bring
about peace is to weaken Isra
el’s defenses, which have been
the greatest single deterrent to
renewed outbreak of hostili
ties.”
Such a policy, they added, is
“precisely what the Soviet
Union has been hoping for,
insofar as it shows their Arab
allies that the Soviets alone are
consistent and reliable suppor
ters of their Middle East
friends.”
In their statement, Mr. Blum
berg and Mr. Graubard further
charged that, by its refusal to
aid Israel, the United States has
“played into the hands of the
totahtarians at the expense of
our democratic friends.”
