Campaign Nears $4.5 Million;
Solicitation Urged by May 50
“The 1972 Jewish Federation
and Israel Emergency Fund
Campaign will officially end on
May 30, but a tremendous amount
of work and sacrifice lie ahead
if we are to fulfill our pledge
and keep the Promise to our fel
low Jews in need,” stated Gen
eral Campaign chairman Sidney
Feldman in presenting a progress
report to the campaign leader
ship.
Feldman commended c a m -
paign leadership for “your
countless hours of dedicated
service to our important cause,"
and reported that the Jewish
community of Atlanta was near
ing the $4,500,000 mark for the
combined regular Jewish Feder
ation and Israel Emergency
Fund Campaign. While this
figure augers well for a respect
able finish, it does not l>egin to
approach the levels of giving
needed for the magnitude of the
challenge's we face.
‘‘The key to the success of the
1972 Campaign lies in the many
donors in our community who
have not yet made their gifts,
and others who are yet to be
solicited. More than 4300 gifts
have already been processed.
Pace Setters chairman David
Goldwasser noted that the latest
immigration figures show daily
arrivals at a rate surpassing that
of January, during which the
Heeeption for

and Mrs. Gilboa
Consul General of Israel and
Mrs. Moshe Gilboa will be
honored at a community re
ception, tendered by the At
lanta Jewish Welfare Federa
tion and its affiliated organi
zations, on Sunday, June 11,
from 3 to 5 p.m.
The reception will be held
in Srochi Hall at Ahavath
Achim Synagogue.
The community is invited to
attend,

previous highest number was re
corded.
Goldwasser noted that current
figures for April and the first
week of May strongly indicate
that the original anticipated
figures of 70,000 immigrants to
Israel will hold true.
Said Feldman, ‘‘It is obvious
that this influx of newcomers
into Israel is creating a burden
on the people of Israel that can
be borne only through United
Jewish Appeal support, that is.
with contributions that must
reflect increases in proportion to
the increased needs resulting
from the new immigration.”
Campaign vice chairmen Jer
ry Dubrof and Harvey Jacobson
acknowledged there is a growing
awareness among Atlanta Jewry
of these very needs and said
they were confident that the
Atlanta Jewry will prove itself
worthy of the trust placed in it
by all who depend on Jewish
philanthropy for better and
safer lives.
Feldman urged all workers in
the Campaign to complete their
assignments with all possible
speed.
“Never To Forgel”
A presentation of films and literature on the Nazi Holocaust
has been nrade to the Atlanta Public Library “to supplement the
library’s collection of material on this tragic era of human his
tory, that illustrated both the extreme cruelty and courage of
which human beings are capable.” Participants in the presenta
tion included (1 to r) G. C. Lasenky, Jewish Federation; Abe
Goldstein, Jewish Federation and ADL; Cantor Isaac Goodfriend;
Memorial Day Committee; Mrs. Rubin Lansky, Eternal Life
Hemschecli; Carlton Rochelle, accepting for the Library; Stuart
Lewengrub, ADL. A special booklist was issued by the Atlanta
