DeWitt Clinton High School
Plans Alumni Reunion (or South
New Arrivals
A small item in The Southern
Israelite in January, subrrlitted by
Sydney Wallenstein in an attempt
to locate area graduates of
DeWitt Clinton High School in
the Bronx, N. Y , has produced
results way beyond Wallenstein's
expectations.
This is the 75th anniversary
year of the Bronx high school and
suitable festivities had been plan
ned for New York. Wallenstein's
idea was to coordinate a local
event if i t proved there were
enough alumni in the area. From
a nucleus of three, the response
grew until a February prelim
inary meeting produced 30 Clin
ton graduates.
As Wallenstein says, ‘Most of
us in that part of the Bronx were
Jewish, and The Southern Israe
lite reached more alumni than we
dreamed.” As the list grew, a
date was set, Saturday, June 24,
at the Sheraton-Emory Inn.
A cash bar social hour has been
planned frorn 7:15 p.m. to 8:15
p.m. with dinner at 8:15, and
ample time to renew old mem
ories.
At last report, 52 Clinton
Alumni had reported in from
Atlanta and other parts of the
South. Earliest class represented
is that of 1919, and most recent
is Class of ’67.
Hal Falk, who has been in
on the planning from the be
ginning, has expressed pleasure
in the size of the response. He
and Wallenstein have had indi
cations that the Atlanta dinner
may be attended by the present
school principal, as well as Lou
Katz, alumni director. along
with their wives.
They urge any as yet unrepor
ted alumni to contact them or
Leonard Bernes, 777 Juniper St.,

a couple includes a planned do
nation to a worthwhile educa
tional cause.
