Six Georgia Families Arranging
Bar Mitzva at Western Wall
At least six Georgia families
have made plans to hold B’nai
Mitzva this summer at the
Western Wall in Jerusalem.
There are five Atlanta families
and one from Macon who have
chosen to observe the solemn
occasion at one of Judaism’s
most hallowed spots.
Those from Atlanta and the
dates of the Bar Mitzva are
Arthur Held Tillem, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Melvin Tillem (June
15); David Harris Cohen, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sherman E. Cohen
(June 17); Jason Curtis Gold,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Gold (June 29); Robert Wild-
stein, son of Dr. and Mrs. Wal
ter Wildstein (July 1); and
Jordan Pilzer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Daniel Pilzer (August 5).
Michael Farber, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Emanuel Farber of
Macon, will become Bar Mitzva
on July 27.
In many cases, the boys and
their parents will be accompan
ied by grandparents and other
relatives, according to Jacob
Goren, director of the Israel
Government Tourist Office for
the Southern States. The Bar
Mitzva arrangements were made
by Mr. Goren through the Min
istry of Tourism in Jerusalem.
Mr. Goren reported that the
idea of holding a Bar Mitzva at
the wall is becoming increasing
ly popular in this country, not
only in the larger cities he
serves, like Atlanta, Miami,
Dallas and Memphis, but in
smaller communities as well.

taking place this summer for six Georgia boys.
He also reported a 40% in
crease in tourism to Israel from
the South over the past six
months, and said the recent
terrorist act at Lod Airport had
not had any effect.

Campaign Clean-Cp Underway
With the Atlanta Jewish Wel
fare Federation Campaign final
date at hand, chairman Sidney
Feldman and vice chairmen
Jerry Dubrof and Harvey Ja
cobson announced an extensive
effort called “Operation Clean-
Up” to complete all outstanding
contributions immediately.
Feldman said that the Cam
paign is currently ahead of last
year on a card for card basis.
He projected new all time high
levels for the Campaign wh#n
the final count is in. “However,
we will fall short of our goal,
which was realistic in terms of
the tremendous needs in Israel,”
he said.
He quoted Pincus Sapir, Is
rael’s Finance Minister. “One
million dollars a day in cash is
needed to maintain Jewish Agen
cy programs for new immi
grants. The financial burden of
caring for the 70,000 immigrants
who will come this year is over
whelming ... in this hour of
need we turn to American
Jewry and we know they will
not disappoint us.”
Feldman said that “Operation
Clean-Up” is crucial. He strong
ly urged all workers to see
every prospect immediately,
making every effort to receive
an increased gift. As workers
complete cards, they are asked
to ‘send or bring them to the
Federation office, 1753 Peach
tree Road, N. E, as soon as pos
sible. Dubrof added that if sol
icitations drag on, it becomes
increasingly difficult to com
plete cards as summer and va
cation time approaches.
Feldman commented that
“every Jewish family in the At
lanta area has an obligation as a
Jew to help other Jews in need.
This is not • responsibility of
only some Jews — each and
every person has a responsibil
ity to participate in this tre
mendous world-wide humani
tarian effort.
“It is only by the grace of
G-d that we are among those
privileged to be able to give and
not have to be on the receiving
end,” he concluded.
