Alinsky Dies at 63
LOS ANGELES (JTA) —
Saul David Alinsky, the self-
styled “realistic radical” who
was a leader in anti-poverty
and social projects, died of a
heart attack at Carmel recently
at age 63.
Mr. Alinsky grew up in Chi
cago’s slums as the son of Rus
sian-born Orthodox Jews. His
advice to modern youth was:
“Make (organizing) a full-time
job — which is more than the
politicians are doing.”
leaders who attended the unique
ceremony and who blessed the
newcomers to the Torah-Faith
were the Deputy Mayor of Jer
usalem, Rabbi Shaer-Yaahuv
HaCohen; Dr. S. Z. Cahana of
the Ministry of Religious Affairs
and the Honorary President of
the World Union; Rabbi M.
Goldstein; Rabbi Chanania Dre-
ji, and Dr. Israel Ben Zeev, na
tional President of the World
Union, an outgrowth of the
United Israel World Union,
founded in the United States in
1944.
i
Hundreds of former non-
Jews, among them whole fam
ilies, who have csme to the
Jewish State to share the fate
of all Jews, have fully adapted
themselves to their new lives
and consider themselves Jews
and Israelis in the fuli sense of
the terms. While many of them
have adopted Judaism by
marrying a Jew or Jewess, the
majority has turned to Judaism
by conviction, namely, the belief
that the Torah-Faith is the one
and workable code of life for
man on the planet earth.
The Israeli Board of the
World Union for the Propaga
tion of Judaism is composed of
some of Israel’s most disting-
ushed personalities, among them
leaders in Government, profes
sors, doctors, etc. The chairman
of the active branch is:
Moshe Dothan, the head of a
municipal department. The Tel
Aviv Board also includes the
noted scholar-physician-author,
Dr. Wolfgang von Weisl and
Joseph Schur, a well-known
businessman in Tel Aviv.
Both World Union bodies, the
one in the U. S.—which is com
memorating its 30th anniversary
in 1973—and its daughter-organ
ization in Israel stress the uni
versality of the eternal Torah-
Faith, holding the door open to
Mt. Sinai to all who wish to
enter in the purity of heart.
