Pig* Six Friday, Aug. 25, 1972 THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE WHAT'S COOKING? by RUTH SIRKJS SHOWTIME SATURDAY 1T30.12:30,130 SUNDAY 2:30. 4:00. 5:30 FREE FOR ALL WHO EAT A Cool Summer Treat This treat you will prepare with a smiling face because you will be pulling a little trick. We are talking about a cool summer dessert which takes about five minutes to prepare. It is rich, fluffy, handsome and delicious. It does not resemble jelly, ice cream or fruit cock tail, even though they are all part of this dessert. The “trick” is simple and neat. While the ice cream cools the jelly, the jelly thickens quickly and cap tures the texture of the ice cream. The results are fun to watch and a joy to eat. For 4-6 servings One pkg. parve strawberry gelatin Six ice cubes One cup drained fruit cock tail About two cups vanilla ice cream 1. Put the gelatin in a bowl and add one cup boiling water. 100 Pryor Street S.W. Use fancy goblets or plain pyrex cups. Garnish each dish with fruit, a dollop of whipped cream and/or a green mint leaf. Copyright 1972, JTA Mix well till all the sugar and gelatin dissolves. Add the ice cubes and let cool till most of the ice melts and the gelatin becomes slightly thick and sticky. 2. Remove the unmelted ice and add the fruit cocktail, then stir in one scoop of ice cream after the other. Fold in enough ice cream to partially set the mixture. Stir gently until there are no traces of ice cream. 3. Pour into a four-cup mold. Use a round mold with a hole in the center, which can be filled, after unmolding, with ad ditional fruit, whipped cream or ice cream. Chill the mold for about an hour or until it is firmly set.
