Israeli Stars To Brighten
Celebration Of IsraeTs 27th
Israel’s 27th Anniversary will be
celebrated in Atlanta in a series of
festive events.
Helen Spiegel, chairman of
Federation’s Israel Independence
Day committee, announced that
the main community-wide event
will take place at 7:00 p.m. Sun
day, Apr. 20, at the Temple. The
evening will consist of a reception
for Consul General Shlomo Levy
and a concert.
At 8:30 p.m., immediately
following the reception, two young
and exciting Israeli stars, Dany
Dayan and Edna Lev, will perform
in a special concert.
Like many other Israeli enter
tainers, they began their careers in
Israel's Armed Forces, where they
emerged as outstanding talents in
the army troupes that perform for
the soldiers.
Dany Dayan grew up in
Tiberias, Israel. He started out as
an organ player and later switched
over to singing. Dany was chosen
as “Performer of the Year” by
National Fladassah.. He is current
ly appearing at Cafe Yaffo, the
New York-based Israeli night
club.
Edna Lev was discovered when
she performed in a national talent
competition while she was still in
high school. Right after high
school, she was drafted into the
army and performed as the soloist
in an army entertainment troupe.
Her recordings and perfor
mances during her army service
made her a winner of the Harp of
David (comparable to the Gram
my Awards), as the best female
singer of 1972.
Hostessing the reception will be
presidents of women’s
organizations. Sherry Frank,
president of the National Council
of Jewish Women, will coordinate
these volunteers.
Teen-agers will celebrate
Israel’s anniversary on the evening
of Tuesday, April 15. Middle-
Eastern refreshments will be serv
ed. Entertainment will be provid
ed by the Erev Duet, by Feibel
Zilberkant (an accomplished musi
cian who recently arrived in Atlan
ta with his family from the Soviet
Union), the Matza Band and
Cream Cheese Dance Group, and
the High School of Jewish Studies
Dance Group. Joel Gross and
David Zion stated the evening is
being planned by the Youth Coun
cil and will take place at 7:00 p.m.
at the Hebrew Academy.

Nazi Group
Plans Reunion
In Britain
LONDON, (JTA) — A plan by
a secret Nazi organization, many
of the members former high-
ranking SS officers, to celebrate
Hitler's birthday in Britain has
been uncovered by a British MP.
Paul Rose, the MP, is now urg
ing the Home Secretary to prevent
Nazi sympathizers from entering
Britain to attend a reunion of
"Column 88.” Rose added that
Scotland Yard’s special branch
(Political Police) had intercepted
an invitation letter in which it was
stated that full military uniform
will be worn.
The letter, which added that
arrangements would be made to
take them to Warninglid, a pic
turesque village near Brighton,
ended with “Heil Hitler.”
Rose, who has presented a mo
tion in the House of Commons,
added that other extreme right-
wing organizations have taken part
in similar demonstrations. “These
organizations do not present any
threat to our way of life, but they
must be carefully watched," he
added.
