City of Hope Dinner

Hazel and Jay Katz have been
chosen to receive the Idealism
Award of the City of Hope at its
annual dinner on Saturday, May
10, at the Quality Inn, Presidential
Park. A champagne reception at 7
p.m will be followed by dinner at
8.
The award is presented to “per
sons whose philosophies and ac
tions exemplify those ideals of the
City of Hope Pilot Medical Cen
ter, and who follow its credo ‘we
are our Brother’s Keeper’.”
Proceeds of the event will be
used to establish an endowment of
a facility at the City of Hope in
Duarte, Calif., in the name of the
honorees.

MS. LILLIAN HOLTZ, president of the Senior
Adult Club at the Atlanta Jewish Community Center,
accepts citation on behalf of all volunteer members of
RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) for out
standing participation. Ms. Ginny Griscomb (I) assis
tant project director and Fulton County coordinator
for RSVP, makes the presentation, while Wil Herrup,
actinc director. AJCC, looks on.
Family and Children's Bureau, reaches into magician's
hat to demonstrate some of the magic being performed
by volunteers in helping older adults. Roz Abrahams,
ORT volunteer coordinator of Outreach project, and
Leonard L. Cohen, director, JFCB, enjoy the act.
Volunteers were honored at a recent luncheon at the
AJCC.

Volunteers from two Atlanta
groups, each involved in programs
for senior adults, were honored at
a special Volunteer Appreciation
Luncheon held April 17 at the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center.
A plaque from the Retired
Senior Volunteer Program
(RSVP), along with a certificate of
appreciation from the AJCC, was
presented to members of the
AJCC’s Senior Adult Programs.
Certificates were also presented,
to volunteers from Atlanta
Regional ORT who participate in
the Jewish Family and Children’s
Bureau Outreach Program to
Senior Adults. ORT volunteers’
activities have included telephone
calls to older members of the com
munity, visits and escort service to
medical appointments, a mini
shopping service to a group of
widows who have difficulty with
grocery shopping. JFCB staff
member Lorrie Mell and ORT
volunteer Roz Abrahams coor
dinate the program.
Fran Corley is in charge of the
AJCC’s program.
An interesting interchange was
noted that some of the AJCC
senior ^ult volunteers are
themselves'recipients of selected
services frthn the Outreach
Program . . . helping others and
being helped.

Municipal Court, was given a
testimonial dinner recently for his
15 years of rendering emergency
medical assistance around Atlan
ta.
Mayor Maynard Jackson had
proclaimed “Judge Arthur Kaplan
Day” and Public Safety Com
missioner Reginald Eaves
presented Judge Kaplan with a full
dress major's uniform from the
Police Bureau. Kaplan has held an
honorary major’s title for several
years.
In addition to his own rescue
patrols. Judge Kaplan had taught
emergency aid techniques to
recruits at the Atlanta Police
