Ahavath Achim Will Confirm
64 Students on Shavuot, May 16
CARL ALPERT
Victor
Haifa — Six years ago I
reported to my readers the
dramatic and thrilling account of
Victor Florian who by sheer will
power was transforming a personal
tragedy into a miracle.
A year after he came to Israel
with his family from Roumania, in
1969, and before he had yet
mastered Hebrew, the 15-year-old
parents, friends, all agreed mourn
fully it was a vain hope, but they
failed to count on the boy's will
power He found people who
would read to him. He listened,
concentrated, memorized — and
mastered the material. One by one
he passed the final examinations in
mathematics, history, literature.
Ahavath Achim Synagogue will hold Confirmation Services for 64
students at 10:00 a m. Friday, May 16, at the Synagogue. The names of

“Problem cases like me," he
told me, “have only a very limited
confidence in a healthy, normal
psychologist who blithely advises
us to overcome our handicaps. He

He has begun work on his doc

he notes, death was a taboo sub

faced frankly, perhaps psy
chologists may be able to render
better help to those who live in
constant fear of death.
In 1969 I questioned whether
