Janice Rothschild and
David Blumberg Wed
Janice O. Rothschild, a native of
Atlanta long active in its Jewish
communal programs, and David
M. Blumberg of Knoxville, inter
national president of B’nai B'rith,
were married Tuesday afternoon,
May 13 at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Nathan I. Lipson in Atlanta.
The ceremony was performed by
Rabbi Alexander M. Schindler of
New York, president of the Union
of American Hebrew
Congregations, in the presence of
members of both families and a
few close friends.
Mrs. Blumberg is the widow of
(he late Rabbi Jacob M.
Rothschild, who was spiritual
leader of the Hebrew Benevolent
Congregation (the Temple) in
Atlanta. She is the daughter of
Mrs. Waldo E. Oettingerof Atlan
ta and the late Mr. Oettinger.
For several years, Mrs.
Blumberg contributed a regular
weekly column to The Southern
Israelite. Her articles have been
published by the Atlanta Journal
and Constitution Sunday
Magazine, Georgia Magazine,
Atlanta Magazine, the Jewish
Digest and other publications. Her
professional writing credits include
the scripts for documentary films
produced by local television
stations and an award-winning
documentary on education for the
National Education Television
network.
Mrs. Blumberg has been the
recipient of two awards from the
Israel government. She organized

elected president of B'nai B'rith in
1971 and reelected to a second
term last year.
He was a member of the Knox
ville City Council and served as
chairman of the city’s chamber of
commerce, symphony society and
United Givers Fund. He also serv
ed as president of the 80,000-
member National Association of
Life Underwriters.
Mr. Blumberg is a co-chairman
of the World Conference of Jewish
Organizations, a national board
member of Israel Bonds and other
major Jewish groups and, for four
years was chairman of the board of
the Leo N. Levi Hospital in Hot
Springs, Ark., a medical center for
research in and treatment of
arthritic diseases.
Mr. Blumberg attended the
University of Tennessee and
received a law degree from
Washington University in St.
Louis. He was awarded both
academic and athletic
scholarships, playing varsity foot
ball and baseball.
During World War II, he
enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an ap
prentice seaman and, after more
than three years of active service,
was discharged with the rank of
lieutenant (senior grade).
In 1973, Mr. Blumberg was
cited by the National Conference
of Christians and Jews with its
Human Relations Award.
The couple plans to maintain'
residences in both Atlanta and
Knoxville.

Program established in Atlanta in
1969 at the request of Israel’s
Ministry of Tourism. She has also
been chairman of the women’s
campaign for Israel Bonds in
Atlanta and co-chairman of the
Women’s Plea for Soviet Jewish
Prisoners of Conscience.
She is currently a member of
B'nai B'rith’s Jewish Historical
Committee, the executive council
of the American Jewish Historical
Society, the national program
committee of the Anti-Defamation
League of B’nai B’rith and the
Atlanta Council of the national
Conference of Christians and
Jews.
Mrs. Blumberg is a graduate of
the University of Georgia, where
she studied drama and music. She
is a past president of Theatre
Atlanta Women's Guild and has
served in various promotional
capacities for Theatre Atlanta as
well as appearing onstage with the
group.
Mrs. Blumberg has traveled ex
tensively, with numerous trips to
Israel and visits to Iran, India and
the Far East, Africa and, at the in
vitation of its government, to West
Germany in 1972.
Mr. Blumberg, an executive
with the Massachusetts Mutual
Life Insurance Company, was
