DAN KEISHIAN^ Formerly of Davison’s Presents The ultimate in handmade carpets from India Chindia—Cathay Agrippa Bengali—Khalabar Atlanta Lodge Sponsors Free Bicentennial Pageant The Atlanta Lodge of B’nai B’rith is sponsoring a Bicenten nial Pageant and Concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the AJCC. There is no charge. The presentation will feature the United States Armed Forces Command band which has received recognition as one of the finest military bands in the country. The hour and a half show, en titled “200 Years of Readiness,” features songs from 12 periods of American history performed by the band and chorus, and a multi-media presentation utiliz ing three slide projectors. Relating their reasons for producing the show, FORSCOM writes, “The ideals of our nation's founders are not out dated — they still inspire the United States today. “The challenges we are meeting now are comparable to the challenges faced by our Founding Fathers when those ideals were brand new ... Let us dedicate ourselves to renewing love of country and love of freedom. They are our most precious bicentennial legacies.” Hirsch Bressler, who is coor dinating the Atlanta Lodge’s in volvement, expressed great enthusiasm for the presentation, noting, “The enormous success of this stirring show makes it es pecially exciting for us to be able to arrange this for the com munity.” i Atlanta “Adopts” Soviet Prisoner DAN KEISHIAN Oriental Rugs Paintings Antiques 2285 Peachtree Rd. N.E. 351-1981 As part of the Women’s Plea for Human Rights for Soviet Jewry, the Atlanta Jewish com munity is adopting a Prisoner of Conscience in the Soviet Union. Haim Renert, a physician, was arrested in March, 1971 on "economic charges.” It was claimed that when Renert went to check on his visa to leave, he bribed an official. He was tried in May of 1971 and sentenced to five years in prison. In Atlanta the Women’s Plea committee has obtained the address of Dr. Renert and his family. It is hoped that letters will serve a dual purpose, said a spokesman, “Giving moral sup port to the prisoner and his family, and serving notice to the prison camp officials that people elsewhere are aware of the prisoner’s plight and are keenly interested in his welfare.” The spokesman added, ‘The greater the volume of letters, the greater are the possibilities for impact, and, it is our hope, for his freedom. A report by Amnesty Inter national, a London-based non sectarian organization that monitors the condition of political prisoners all over the world has confirmed charges that “Jewish prisoners are fre quently singled out for special abuse’’ and that prison authorities deliberately provoke anti-Semitic acts against them by non-Jewish inmates. Names and addresses and guidelines for corresponding with Soviet Jews will be given out at the Women’s Plea for Soviet Jewry rally at 11:00 a m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Temple. A detailed announcement of that rally appears elsewhere in this issue.
