CHOCO-CHIP DATE CAKE
This date and chocolate chip
cake is an old favorite of ours. It
is moist and keeps well for
several days (if it lasts that
long). The recipe was given to me
by my good friend, Mrs. Yale
Miller of St. Louis.
1 cup dates (chopped)
l'/i cups boiling water
1 1 2 tsp. baking soda
*i cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
I ■’ i cups flour
\i tsp. baking soda
1 2 tsp. salt
6 oz. chocolate chips
'/i cup sugar
1 cup nuts (chopped)
Combine first three in
gredients. Let stand about x k
hour. Cream margarine, sugar
and eggs on high speed. Mix
well. Add cold date mixture and
blend well. Sift into batter the
flotir, remaining baking soda
and salt. Use a low speed and
mix only until well blended.
Pour into a greased 9x13 inch
pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips, '/*
cup sugar, nuts, in that order
over batter. Bake at 350 degrees
for 30-40 minutes.

Bob Scherer and Bud Moss, (right) GPC vice
president in Macon, tour Texprmt plant with
manager Marshall Cooley.
Georgia has made enormous strides in
industrial progress in recent years. And
one of the state’s newest industries is
Texprint, Inc., a unique and interesting
company in Macon, which began pro
duction in July.
Texprint takes pure white fabrics,
shipped in by its customers, and prints
them with colorful designs. Through in
tricate processes requiring highly skilled
technicians, as many as 16 colors can be
applied. Fabrics are then finished, pack
aged and returned to the customers for
marketing. Management and employees
alike take pride in turning out superior
quality work.
Industries like Texprint provide jobs
and payrolls for Georgia. They’re impor
tant to the economy of the state. So is elec
tric energy—and a financially sound elec
tric utility whose earnings enable it to
attract investment capital to keep up with
Georgia’s needs. Without adequate earn
ings, the financial rating of a utility drops,
the cost of money goes up and the cost of
producing electricity for consumers rises.
We at Georgia Power Company are
dedicated to providing dependable elec
tric service for all our customers. With
your support and understanding, we’ll
continue to have enough electricity avail
able in the future.
If you have suggestions as to how we
can better provide for your electric needs,
I would like to hear from you.

Lumber Company, Rothpearl
was, back in his younger days, a
musician, whose future father-
in-law decided he could never
make a living in the theater. He
became an architectural
draftsman and went into the
lumber business in 1937.
When it came time to find
backers for this theatrical ven
ture, Rothpearl turned first to
his competitor in the lumber
business, Sherry Enrenfeld.
Enrenfeld, for his trouble and
support, became a coproducer
and a partner in a smash hit.
Rothpearl’s next two projects,
“Hard To Be A Jew” and “The
Big Winner,” which were both
authored by Sholom Aleichem,
were also smash hits.
This year’s show is “The Fifth
Season,” a new musical version
of the hit comedy by Sylvia
Regan. The show originally
opened on Broadway in 1953 and
ran for 653 performances before
touring the U.S. and playing
London’s West End for a year.
