CONSBtVE ENERGY
Straight Talk from
Bob Scherer
President,
Georgia Power Company
The cost of everything in your family
budget is probably going up. At Georgia
Pov^er Company we have the same
problem.
I have previously outlined in these
messages some of the cost-cutting
measures we’ve taken to help holddown
our cost of providing your electric ser
vice. But realistically, today’s worldwide
inflation will probably continue to force
up our costs of serving you. ' * /,
However, there are conservation
measures you can take to use electricity
more efficiently and get the most from
your energy dollars, borne of these mea
sures are listed below.
Check your insulation. Six inches is rec
ommended for ceilings, three inches for
walls and floors. A house properly insu
lated takes about half as much electricity
to cool or heat as one not insulated.
Storm -windows and weatherstripping
also will help conserve energy. '
Check your thermostat settings. A win
ter setting of 6^degrees during the day,
60 to 65 at night is recommended. In
summer 78 degrees is recommended.
Check your lights. Needless electricity is
wasted when lights are left burning in
unused rooms, particularly when tne air
conditioning is running.
Limit your use of hot water while wash
ing dishes, shaving and similar uses.
Run your washer and dryer only with
full loads.
Georgia Ftower Company is committed
to a policy of encouraging the most effi
cient use of electric energy possible. I
would welcome your suggestions or
questions on this important subject.
