Shalom Atlanta Hosts Newcomers
An overflow crowd was served
supper on Sunday evening, Sept.
19, as the 1976-77 Shalom
ATlanta committee hosted the
initial event of the club year.
The Committee welcomed a wide
range of newcomers both young
and not so young, single, and
married.
As the newcomers introduced
themselves, they represented
every aspect of student,
business, and professional life.
Chairwoman Barbara Planer
said, “Atlanta continues to at
tract many newcomers to the
community and provides both
excellent career and living op
portunities. We of the Shalom
Atlanta Committee are pleased
to have the occasion to greet
newcomers on behalf of the
organized Jewish community."
She went on to say, “We hope
Children's Fashion Show
Oct. 27 In Downtown Park
The National Council of
Jewish Women will hold a
Children’s Fashion Show in
the Central City Park on
Wednesday, Oct. 27, from
11:30 a m. to 1:30 p.m. In case
of rain the event will be held
on Friday, Oct. 29.
The children’s clothes being
modeled will be on sale at the
club’s annual fund raising
event, Bargainata. Besides the
highlight a Children's Bou
tique containint many new
and slightly used childrens
items.
Bargainata will be held
from November 7 to 11 at 485
Peachtree Street. The sale
will feature new and slightly
used clothing for men and
women and slightly used
household items, in addition

Will Meet
October 21
Regency Chapter (business
and professional women) of
Women’s American ORT will
meet at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 27, at the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center.
The program will be entitled
“Election ’76 Dialogue — An
Overview.” Mrs. Estelle D.
Showe, program vice president,
has advised that Mrs. Dorothy
K. Fierst will moderate the
program. Representing Carter-
Mondale Headquarters will be
Mrs. Sandy Abrams. Speaking
for the President Ford Com
mittee will be Mrs. Sandra
Mackey, a free-lance lecturer in
international relations.

Family Hayride
Set By AJCC
The family activities com
mittee of the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center is plan
ning a Fall Family Hay-Ride
for Sunday, Nov. 7, 2-4 p.m.
at Zaban Park.
Activities will include a
hay ride, games, bobbing-for-
apples and refreshments.
Reservations are required,
$1.50 for adults, $1.00
children over 2.

JWV Meeting
October 23
The Mack Frankel Atlanta
Post 112, Jewish War
Veterans, will meet at
Brookwood Hotel at 8:15 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 25.
Final plans will be an
nounced for the annual Gift-
O-Rama fund raising event
October 31 at the Atlanta
Cabana Motel.
Plans will be discussed for
the Veterans Day program
which includes the placing of
fresh American flags on the
graves of all veterans buried
in Greenwood and Crestlawn
cemeteries.
Yeshiva High
PTA Meeting
Yeshiva High School PTA
will open the season Tuesday,
Oct. 26, at 8:00 p.m. at the
school.
Guest speaker will be
William Gralnick, executive
director of the American
Jewish Committee. His topic
will be “Is American Politics
Safe for American Jews?”
Mrs. Emily Birnbaum an
nounced a cake sale will be
held Sunday, Nov. 21, just
before Thanksgiving, and a
flea market on December 19.
The PTA meeting is open to
the public.

Elect Mrs. Paske
Miami Circuit
Court Judge
Mrs. Adele Segall Faske,
a former resident of Atlanta,
was recently elected as a Cir
cuit Court Judge of Miami.
She was the first woman
Assistant State Attorney in
Florida history in 1953 and is
considered an expert in child
support matters.
Very active in Florida Jewish
activities, Mrs. Faske is a
member of Temple Emanuel and
a life member of Hebrew
Academy Women.
She was married to the late
Maurice M.Faske, a Miami
businessman, and is the mother
of three children.
Mrs. Sidney Cavalier, (Helen),
has accepted the chairmanship
of arrangements and reser
vations for the November 3
Ahavath Achim-Israel Dinner of
Solidarity honoring Sara and
David Altetman.
Helen Cavalier has a unique
distinction of being labeled the
“mother of Israel Bonds”
because of her devotion and sup
port of the economic develop
ment of the State of Israel
through the Israel Bond
program.
Mrs. Cavalier stated: “The
Israel Bond story is a story of
people working and building and
making sacrifices, and it is a
story of a program that provides
a major share of the develop
ment funds for Israel’s progress
in the face of enormous pro
blems and needs.
“We at Ahavath Achim will
continue to lend our fullest sup
port tho this program,” she con
cluded.
Mrs. Cavalier and her hus
band Sidney were the 1972
recipients of the Israel Award of
Honor at the Ahavath Achim
Israel Bond Dinner. She has
been active in the cancer and po
lio drives, and the City of Hope,
as well as active in Hadassah,
Brandeis, Counil fo Jewish
Women, ORT, and the Ahavath
Achim Sisterhood. She was the
first person in Atlanta to be

honored by the City of Hope. She
also was the recipient of the
Hadassah Myrtle Wreath
Award.
Helen and Sidney Cavalier
have three children, Jules, Ben
and Sally. Sally is married to
Phillip A. Kaplan and they have
three children, Michael, Lisa and
Be be.
