everyone. Too many people identify the singles group as being
“swingles” who are in Hotlanta to boogie and party.

Of course there are the par
ties, the brunches, the bars, the
fun times that only singles (and
some “singles”) are able to enjoy,
and I'll be reporting on many of
these activities, too.
Another aspect of our singles
scene is the cultural activities
engaged in and initiated by the
non-married adults of our com
munity.
And has it blossomed!!
We are still the People of the
Book, but we are also People of
the Lecture, people of the Film,
People of the Theater, People of
the Concert, People of Sport, and
People of the Journey. Keep up
with our happenings here in
“The Southern Israelite.”
WHA’S HAPPENIN’?
Jen Levisen of the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center
passes along the following:
Over one thousand different
single adults participated in
various programs at the Atlan
ta Jewish Community Crater
last year. The AJCC is com
mitted to the importance of
providing Jewish single adults
with the opportunity for social
contacts with other Jewish
single adults.
Many tingle adults view the
AJCC not ep.a Jewish Com
munity Center, but as the
Crater of the Jewish Com
munity. Therefore, they
gravitate naturally to
programs at the Center for

have started a Jewish “Big
Brother” program, “Achim
Ahuvim.” The pilot program
runs through May 31st, with
eight single parent families par
ticipating. Jewish Big Brothers
and Jewish boys from single
parent families are paired. Men
over die age of twenty-one, and
single parent families with boys
between the ages of seven and
fourteen who would like to par
ticipate in the program should
get in touch with Jen or Joel at
the AJCC.

and 45, there’s the ATLANTA
LEISURE CLUB, which is run
ning a “Peddlar’s Fare” on
March 20. There will be no ad
mission charge for either the
peddlars or peddlees. If you
want to sell plants, paintings,
macrame, or any other craft or
household good, give Phyllis a
call At 634-7983 to register your
peddlings.

Now for the group that
everybody’s talking about —
THE FORUM.
The last few months have seen
s new group take form that’s
captured the imagination of the
young Jewish singles of Atlanta.
THE FORUM is providing a high
level of cultural and educational
activity for the 23-35 year old
group. Sponsored by the Atlanta
Jewish Welfare Federation, it
has brought together more than
six hundred people to engage in

Formed through the efforts of
Susan and Marcia Caller, Mike
Ettinger, Marilyn Shubin, Ruth
Rothfarb and Gary Alter, its

professionals.

Also new on the scene is a
singles chapter of B’nai B’rith.
The unit, a new concept for B’nai
B’rith, will participate in com
munity projects as well as social
activities.
A “Bread Baking Bash” and
an Oneg Shabbat were recently
held at Hillel House. Also plan
ned are bingo, shabbatons, work
ing with juveniles and tutoring
at prisons. The group is open to
single men and women in their
late 20’s through 40’s.
