■Pag* 8 THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE March 4,
Author Gerda Klein
to appear in A tlanta
Gerda Klein will addrees
several groups in Atlanta the
week of March 6 in behalf of the
Atlanta Jewish Welfare Federa
tion Women’s Campaign.
Mrs. Klein has a moving per
sonal story to share. She has
spoken extensively throughout
the country in behalf of the
United Jewish Appeal, Bonds for
Israel and Hadassah. Her book,
“All But My Life,” has been hail
ed by critics in the United
States, England and Holland
and called “one of the most mov
ing and beautifully written
books of Jewish suffering and
survival.” •
The following quote from her
book indicates her sensitivity:
“As I finish the last chapter of
my book, I feel at peace, at last. I
have discharged a burden, and
pqid a debt to many nameless
heroes, resting in their un
marked graves. For I am
haunted by the thought that I
might be the only one left to tell
their story.
“Happy in my new life, I have
penned the last sentence of the
past. I have written my story,
with tears and with love, in the
hope that my children, safely
asleep in their cribs, should not
awake from a nightmare and
find it to be reality.”
Sunday evening. Mar. 6, Mrs.
Klein will address a group of
young couples studying in
preparation for a trip to Eastern
Europe in May. Monday mor
ning, she will speak to a joint
meeting of Atlanta Sisterhoods
in behalf of the Campaign.
Three groups representing a
new approach for the Campaign
— the Working Gals Division,
all young professional women;
the Forum, a group of young
singles, and an out-reach
educational program in Cobb
County — each will hear her.
A major fundraising event in
behalf of the Advocate's Division
will be held at 10 a.m. Wednes
day, Mar. 9, at the home of Renie
Weinstein, Heards Creek Dr. All
prospects in the Women’s Divi-
Qerda Klein
sion, comprising contributors of
$365-750, have been invited.
For further information, call
the Federation office, 873-1661.
Atlanta Sisterhoods slate
Klein for joint meeting
Gerda Klein, noted author and
lecturer, will address a joint
meeting of all Atlanta
Sisterhoods at 10 a.m. Monday,
March 7 at Temple Sinai.
A survivor of the Holocaust,
Mrs. Klein has devoted her life
to Jewish survival. Sisterhood
leaders felt Mrs. Klein’s message
would reach the greatest
number of members through
such a joint meeting.
Radio Liberty will drop
scripts from Nazi suspect
NEW YORK, (JTA) - Radio
Liberty, the federally funded
radio station that broadcasts to
the Soviet Union, will stop buy
ing scripts from an alleged Nazi
war criminal, Sig Mickelson,
president of Radio Liberty, said.
In a letter to Rep. Edward Koch
(D.NY) who last week demanded
that Congress investigate Radio
Liberty for using script supplied
by a suspected Nasi war
criminal, Mickelson wrote that
the station will stop buying any
more scripts on Latvian life
from Vilas Hazners, 71, a promi
nent Latvian emigre living in up
state New York, who is accused
of complicity in the killings of
several hundred Jews in and
around Riga, Latvia during
World War II. The disclosure on
the connection between Hazners
and Radio Liberty was made
after a deportation hearing was
held last week in Albany by the
Immigration and Naturalization
Service.
A mini-breakfast will be serv
ed and the Hebrew Academy
Choir will sing.
Speaking in behalf of the
hostess group, Mrs. Eva Stern
commented, “The Temple Sinai
Women’s Committee is pleased
to welcome all Atlanta
Sisterhood members to our Tem
ple on this very special occasion.
“We have every hope that our
sanctuary will be overflowing on
this occasion. Gerda Klein’s per
sonal story and life provides a
moving model for teach of us.”
