Clowning around Is serious
business for Kehillah Lodge
Brandeis Women
Brandeis University National
Women’s Committee, Atlanta
Chapter, will present “Zip-A-Dee-
Doo-Dah,” its annual Creative
Arts Festival honoring the per
forming arts at 11:30 a.m. on
Tuesday, Apr. 26, at the Stan
dard Club.
The festival will include a
reception honoring Cantor Isaac
Goodfriend for his contribution
to music, Myrna Loy for her con
tribution to the theater, and
Faith Brunson for her contribu
tion to the literary field.
Art work by Lucinda Bunnen,
Ouida Canaday, and Karen
Wantuck will be displayed also.
Following the reception, there
will be a luncheon at 12:15 p.m.
featuring the installation of of
ficers and a musical program by
Lit Connah, Kim Graham, B.
Allen Thompson, Richard
Woods, and Leasa Stutts.
A traditional part of the Arts
Festival, a gourmet section, will
be featured.

Metropolitan Opera Tenor
Nico Castel, appearing in three
performances of this years’
Opera week in Atlanta, will per
form selections from the Sephar
dic rituals at Or VeShalom
Synagogue at Friday night ser
vices on May 6. He will also sing
a few Ladino and popular songs
at the Oneg Shabbat following
services.
So) Beton, whose previous
acquaintanceship with Castel
sparked the Or VeShalom
appearance, said the guest will
sing a Constantinople version of
Leche Dodi, a Moroccan Kid-
dush, and the Babylonian ver
sion of the Alenu.
Castel has 145 roles in his
repertoire, encompassing many
different languages and styles.
His multi-lingual abilities come
naturally; his mother speaks
eight languages and his father
thirteen, including Sanskrit.
Tempo ORT
ORT’s newest chapter, Tempo,
held its Installation of Officers
Dinner and Charter Signing
April 20 at Quinn’s Mill.

Weiser, ORT regional
education chairman.

Gesher Tiion Chapter of
American Mizrachi Women will

cosmetics for the "New Look for
Spring” will be featured.

There are some extra smiles
on the faces of Atlanta’s retard
ed, hospitalized, elderly, and
handicapped citizens, thanks to
a group of B'nai B’rith Lodge
members who take their clow
ning seriously.
Kehillah Lodge B’nai B’rith
has its own clown troupe, the
Kehillah Klowns, who serve to
entertain these less fortunate in
dividuals.
Begun just last year by the
Community and Volunteer Ser
vice Committee of Kehillah
Lodge, the clowns also serve as a
fundraising tool by which in
dividuals make donations to the
service fund by hiring a clown
for a children’s party.

service committee chairman,

organizing the clown troupe,
with the help of the Shrine Red

Chapter of B’nai B’rith Women
will elect its 1977-78 officers at a,

Bat Shalom Hadassah
Bat Shalom Hadaaaah will
present an assertive training
mini workshop, Tuesday, Apr.

session with Dr. George Warsaw
and Dr. Richard Blue of the
Institute for Assertive Training.

community institutions and in
community events including the
Scottish Rite Children’s
Hospital, the Georgia Retarda
tion Center, the Jerry Lewis
Telethon for Muscular
Dystrophy, and a Christmas
party for over 500 Atlanta area
retarded citizens.
The clowns themselves receiv
ed a few smiles when they won
“Best Badge Project” and shared
in “Best Programming” awards
at B’nai B’rith’s State Conven
tion.

Temple Sinai continues its
Symposium on Jewish Medical
Ethics with a panel discussion of
"Je wis h Medical-Ethical
Problems in Death and Dying”
at 8 p.m. Monday, Apr. 25, at
Tt mple Sinai.
Panelists are: Rabbi Richard
Lehrman, Temple Sinai; Irving
Greenberg, M.D., surgeon;
Stanley Winocur, M.D., on
cologist; and Gerald
Friedlander, attorney.
The final discussion of the
series, "Medical-Ethical
Decisions in Birth Control,
Genetic Counseling, and
Prolongation of Life,” will be
held at 8 p.m. Monday, May 2, at
Temple Sinai.
Panelists will be: Rabbi Juda
Mintz, director of Atlanta Hillel
Federation; Sam Chyatte, M.D.,
physical medicine; Jacob Eps
tein, M.D., obstetrics and
gynecology; and Ralph Klopper,
M.D., psychiatrist.

Jewish Home
The Jewish Home is seeking
volunteers to share their talent,
skills, and concern with
residents of the Jewish Home
and will offer a 10-hour course
designed to teach how to obtain
best results when working with
the elderly. The course will begin
Monday, May 2, at the Jewish
Home. The course is required
training in the Jewish Home
Volunteer Program.
