American Jewish
Committee
A structural reorganization of
the American Jewish Com*
mittee’s Atlanta Chapter has
recently taken place, which in
cludes the establishment of five
local commissions. Each com
mission will relate to a specific
department on the national
level.
The commissions and their
chairpersons are:
Domestic Affairs, Dr. Sheldon
Cohen; Foreign Affairs, Michael
Ginsberg; Jewish Communal Af
fairs, Susan Schwartz;
Interreligious Affairs, Tom
Asher; Institutional Affairs,
David Golden.
William Gralnick, South
eastern director of AJC, said
the new system would permit
each commission to function
more effectively in local policy
development for its particular
national department.
In addition, Gralnick said,
“this structure allows each local
chairperson to know what part
of the national organization he
or she is relating to and will
provide greater opportunities for
membership participation.”
At a recent goal-setting
workshop held by the Atlanta
Chapter, all national AJC
priorities were studied with the
chapter tentatively selecting
those areas which it will recom
mend to the board of trustees for
special concentration in the com
ing year. Appropriate com
mittees will be appointed by the
commission chairpersons.
Atlanta Chapter AJC co-
chairmen for the coming year
are William W. Epstein and Ted
V. Fisher. Dr. Sheldon B. Cohen,
Larry I. Bogart, Herbert B.
Cohen and Charlotte Wilen are
vice presidents; Dorothy K.
Fierst, secretary and William B.
Schwartz III, treasurer.
