A graduate of the Mador
program, Rabbi Lewis has
taught Hebrew to high school
students in the United States
and has taught English to
students in Jerusalem. Last year
he served as part-time spiritual
leader in Wurtsboro, N.Y. A
lieutenant in the Navy’s
Chaplaincy Program, he is also
in charge of placing seminary
students for the High Holy
Days.
Rabbi Lewis will be in Atlanta
for Shabbat services on August
26.

The 300 delegates to the con
vention raised over $500,000 in
advance pledges to go toward the
construction of Child Haven
(Beth Ha Yeled), a new child
care facility to be built in the
new Gilo section of Jerusalem.

served in the Israeli Army for
over three years. Tidhar
married an Israeli girl, Han
na, whom he met on a kib
butz. They have throe sabra
sons, Gilboa, Noam, and
Tsur. Besides serving regular
40 day a year Reserve duty,
Tidhar was active in the
civilian patrol, as was his
wife. This called for monthly
guard duty at several schools.
After a short time in the
United States, Tidhar wryly
admits “AH that seems easy
compared to living with the
car-poolitis recently con
tracted in Atlanta.”
With JNF responsibility
for seven Southeastern states
and part of an eighth (North
Florida), Tidhar expects to
work harmoniously with all
Jewish organisations and to
get each one involved with
JNF. One of his goals is to es
tablish a Young Leadership
group.
Leading by example,
Tidhar has planted a JNF
Grove in Israel honoring his
parents.
