The AJCC summer leagues are
over, and now it’s time to hand
out the awards and accolades.
A big vote of appreciation and
gratitude has to go to those
dedicated and misled guys who
actually believed that they
would be given a championship
team if they volunteered to be a
captain. Softball captains ware
John Chajfitx, Don Jaaiow, Jon
Miller, Alan Manheim, Wayne
Aronson, frank Cervaaio, Steve
Greene, Charlie Rosenberg, Jeff
Baumrind, Alan Wolkin and
Morris Frank, chairman.
Basketball captains were
Mark Popowski, Steve
Gruenhut, Mark Hoffman, Jon
Mopper, Stan Sobel, Alan Carp,
Jerry Finkelstein, Mark Jacob
son and Paul Weiner, chairman.
Congratulations to John
Chaifets and his teammates on
winning the men's softball
championship . . . One of the
reasons Steve Green’s team
made it to the finals this year
was because of the outstanding
play of Howard Hyman and Lee
Isen... Stan Firestone has given
official notice that this is
definitely his last year in the
league (AGAIN) ... The Center
is going to send Alan Manheim a
bill for all the lost balls he hit
over the fence . . the best
brother team award goes to the
Schscters (Lenny and Jeff). ..
Gene Benator has repeated this
year as winner of the “Insurance
Claim Award” :; . Robert Mar-
mar, affectionately known as
office next year on file softball
field.
Alan (the screamer) Carp’s
team won the summer basket
ball league 86-83 over Jon
Mopper’s team when Jerry
Schwarts droped In two clutch
free throws with only three
seconds left on the deck... Seth
Kirschbaum, Jen Miller and
Gary Schmerling, scored 18,18,
and 18 points respectively as
their team lost in the final game
... A sight to behold is some of
the strategy coach Jon Mopper
employs during a game . . .
Rookie of the Year honors go to
Michael Feldman on two ac
counts; (1) for scoring 21 points
in the championship game; (2)
for putting up with a bunch of
cranky has-beens for a whole
season ... Mystery of the year is
how Paul Weiner, basketball
chairman and the guy who
makes up the teams, ended up on
a last place team .A get well
wish to Steve Gruenhut who in
jured his knee in the line of duty.
The league not only lost one of
its captains but also its statisti
cian . ..
