Violinist Steve Warner of
Atlanta is one of four violin
itudents at Philadelphia’s
Curtis Institute of Music
chosen to perform with a select
accompanying chamber
orchestra in a special
commemorative concert in
honor of famed concert
violinist Efrem Zimbalist, a
former director of the Curtis
Institute, on Sunday, April 30,
at the Institute. The chamber
orchestra will accompany a
concerto for four violins by
Vivaldi to be played by four
former students of Zimbalist,
among them concert violist
Joseph Silverstein, concert
master of the Boston
Symphony Orchestra.
Mrs. Lillian Stone, mother of
United States Senator Richard
Stone (Dem.-Fla.), is one of the
leaders of a unique “reality
orientation” program at the Four
Freedoms Manor nursing facility
in Miami Beach. In an effort to
bring both religion and
companionship to the elderly
residents, Mrs. Stone leads a group
of eight “friendly visitors” who act
as companions to Manor
residents. The group leads the
predominantly Jewish participants
in singing Jewish and American
folk songs, reciting poetry,
dancing, marching and other
activities in the home’s non-
denominational chaoel. Following
Friday afternoon Shabbat services
led by a visiting rabbi, Mrs. Stone
leads the group in singing Jewish
religious songs.
Karen R. Friedenberg of
Atlanta, formerly director of
public relations for Lenox Square,
has recently opened the office of
Karen Friedenberg Advertising, as
an advertising and promotions
consultant.

Roger Strauss, who campaigned
for president of the student body at
the University of Georgia with a
paper bag over his head, won a
run-off election last week. Strauss,
who started the campaign as a
joke, takes his election and coming
presidency quite seriously, said his
mother. The Junior Journalism
major is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Kenard Strauss of Atlanta and was
confirmed from the Temple five
years ago.
Howard Fast, famed author of
“My Glorious Brothers,” is in
Israel to discuss with Professor
Yigal Yadin and Jerusalem’s
Mayor Teddy Kolek his script for a
13-hour TV serial on the history of
the Jewish people; from the
Biblical era up to the present time.
Buddy and Barbara Watson of
Marietta announce the birth of a
son, Paul Stuart, on April 6.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Libowsky of Atlanta and
Mr. and Mrs. James P. Watson of
Kingsport, Tenn. The bris was
performed by Rabbi Baruch Gold.

Marietta announce the birth of a
daughter, Jill Sandra, on March

Mrs. Judith Piha of Atlanta.
Jon Ginsberg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Max Ginsberg of Atlanta, and
Steven Goldberg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence H. Goldberg of
Atlanta, have been named
semifinalists in the National Public
Radio System’s Young People's
Radio Festival. The high school
juniors will represent the entire
Atlanta area in the national
contest with their original
production of “Revenge on the
Ocean," which starred, in addition
to the producers, Brian Berman,
Leland Burke, Michael Diamond,
Randy Frostig, Gary Lemco, and
Eva Silbiger. Steven and Jon
submitted their production to
WABE-FM, NPR’s Atlanta
affiliate, and were chosen
semifinalists in the Senior age
category (15-18) by a panel of
judges consisting of commercial
radio station representatives,
educators, and members of the
Atlanta arts community.

Stephen Lee Sigal, son of Mr.
and Mrs. MyerO. Sigal of Macon,
has been awarded the Dreyfus
Research Fellowship at Yale
University this summer in the field
of physical bio-chemistry. A past
recipient of the Governor’s Honors
Program of Georgia, Sigal was
winner of the 1976 Jaycees
Citizenship Award and was
Valedictorian of the Stratford
Class of 1976. He served as
president of the Southeast
Federation of Temple Youth and
was a National Merit Scholar. He
is presently completing his second
year at Yale as an Honor Student.
Mrs. Maxine Marcus of
Atlanta was honored at the
recent Brandeis Creative Arts
Festival as one of the founding
members of the Atlanta
Chapter of Brandeis University
National Women’s Committee.
The first Library Benefactor
In the Chapter, Mrs. Marcus
was presented with the
Benefactor pin and will have
her name inscribed in the
Goldfarh Library at Brandeis
University in Waltham, Mass.
In her honor the Atlanta
Chapter presented Mrs.
Marcus with ten units of the
Library Trust Fund.
Mrs. Marcus is currently an
Honorary National Board
Member of the Brandeis
Women’s Committee.
