‘Newscast’ aids women
Atlanta television newswomen
Ellen Burstein, Monica Kaufman
and Barbara Nevins serve as
anchorwomen for a simulated
news broadcast, “Federation
Issues Update," recently prepared
by the Women’s Division of the
Atlanta Jewish Federation.
The videotaped broadcast,
which provides volunteer solicitors
with current information for this
year's campaign, was prepared by
the education committee under the
leadership of Judy Kogon, assisted
by Terri Bagen, Margie Eden, and
Sue Winner.
The use of a newsbroadcast is an
attempt by the Women’s Division
Campaign to provide workers with
the best possible means to achieve
a fast and extensive exposure to
current issues. This tool was
selected for its high retention rate
as well as its uniqueness to the
Campaign. Channel 5, WAGA,
under the leadership of Marty
Stimmel, produced and directed
the broadcast.
The videotape will be shown to
all workers in this year’s Women’s
Division Campaign as part of the
Issues and Techniques program.
Other sections of the I.T.
program are an Issues l.Q. test; a
presentation on the need
satisfaction process of solicitation,
and a discussion on Project
Renewal.
I.T. sessions have been
scheduled for Thurs., Feb. 8, from
7:30-9.30 p.m.; Tues., Feb. 13,^
from 12’30-JW p.fB:, and Fri.,"
Feb. 16, from 10 a. m.-12 noon. AH
Campaign workers are expected to
attend one of the I.T. sessions.

As the 1979 Atlanta Jewish
Federation Campaign swings into
high gear, it becomes apparent that
keeping pace with local needs
alone will require additional
commitment from the community.
More than $1,000,000 from the
1979 Federation Campaign will be
required to provide the services in
the . Atlanta Jewish community
which touch the lives of every
Jewish citizen.
A report from Betty Ann
Jacobson, chairperson of the local
agency fiscal review committee,
delivered at the January
Federation board meeting, noted
that requests from four of the local
agencies indicated that significant
increases were required in order to
maintain quality programming for
the coming year.
he Jewish Community Center
its request on increased
operating costs and modest salary
increases. The committee
recommended all allocation of
$155,000, representing an
allocation of $31,000 more than
the previous year.
*Camp Barney Medintz will
receive $18,000 for camp
scholarships, an increase of $3,000.
The Jewish Community Center
nutrition program will require an
The
based
additional $2,400, bringing their
allocation to $27,587.
The most dramatic increase will
be required by the Jewish Home.
Due to rising costs and a smaller
increase than anticipated in
Medicaid reimbursements, the
Home sought an allocation from
Federation of $182,933 for
1978/79 as opposed to $101,000 in
1977/78.
The Federation board approved
these four increases, totaling
$118,000.
Mrs. Jacobson concluded that
the goal of $5,000,000 for the
regular campaign must be met “if
Atlanta is to continue to be
responsive to the needs of the local,
national and international
agencies which have come to count
on us for support."
