participated in the Block
Education Program*! field
instructors conference held
recently at Yeshiva University’s
Wurzweiler School of Social Work
in New York.
The Block program allows
students to do field work in their
hometown agencies during the
year and to take courses during the
summer towards their master's
degree in social work at
Wurzweiler.
“The world's largest homemade
Valentine card” was presented by
Anne Friedman, director of
Weight Watchers in Georgia, to
Paul Rayaton, of Atlanta,
representing Georgia’s Heart
Association at a recent kick-off
luncheon. Mrs. Friedman signed a
promisory check pledging to
match, by SO percent, ail donations
made by Weight Watchers
members in all classes to the Heart
Association during the month of
February.
Beth Dyvit, daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. Monte Davit, and Marion
Rae Clein, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Clein, have been
selected as Atlanta’s-representa
tives in the special high school
exchange program in Israel.
The objective of this program is
to promote a better understanding
of the American Jewish
community and of American life in
general on the part of Israeli high
school youth. Both girls have
attended local religious schools
and have been very active in Jewish
youth group.
Beth graduated in January from
Lakeside High School, while
Marion attends Briarcliff High
School.
The exchange program it
organized and sponsored
nationally by the World Zionist
Organization-Jewish Agency and
is coordinated in Atlanta by Dr.
Leon H. Spotts, executive director
of the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education.
Joan B. BoHen, an environ
mental attorney with the U.S.
Environmental Protection
Agency in Atlanta has been
named one of Glamour
magazine's Success Choices for
1979.
She is among 10 outstanding
achievers Glamour selected
from over 700 applicants.
Ms. Boilen was one of the
first women to be awarded a
degree in civil engineering in
1970 from the * *University of
Miami. After working as a civil
engineer for only 10 months,
she decided to go to law school
at night. She obtained her
present position shortly after
graduation.
Ms. Boilen set a record in
1977 when she settled an
environmental case for
$200,000, the largest fine given
to a corporate water polluter in
the southeast region.
Ms. Boilen is a member of
B'nai B’rith Women. She and
her husband, Stephen J. Sasine,
also a lawyer, have a two-year-
old son and live in Atlanta. Ms.
Boilen is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Theodore Brown of
Lakeland, Fla.
Pam Hoffman of Atlanta, a
senior at Briarcliff High School,
has been selected for the National
Honor Society. Pam is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald
Hoffman.

The Bar Mitzva of Nathaniel
(Niel) Mendels Bornstein of
Atlanta will take place Saturday,
Feb. 17, at Congregation Or
VeShalom. A congregational
kiddush will follow. Nathaniel is
the son of Manuela and Murray
Bornstein and the grandson of
Ellen and Frits Mendels of
Cannes, France, and the late Edith
and Jacob Bornstein of New York.
Sharon M. Gerber, daughter of
Rabbi and Mrs. Israel Gerber of
Charlotte, N.C., has been named
vice president of Quantum, Inc.,
Atlanta-based advertising, sales
promotion, public relations firm.
Jill Uris, a noted photographer, focuses on the newborn
intensive care unit at Hadassah University Hospital in Mt. Scopus
for a book on Jerusalem by her husband, author Leon Uris-
Herbert Arthur RingeU of the
legal firm. Smith, Cohen, Ringel,
Kohler and Martin, has been
elected as chairman of the board of
trustees of AASB (Atlanta Area
Services for the Blind). Ringel has
been an Atlanta jesident for over
30 years and has served as
president of the Society for
Prevention of Blindness and on the
board of trustees of AASB for
three years. He was president of
the Temple from 1966-69.
Hariet Paid, Sid Rosen and Joe
PeBcr, associates of Fields Realty
Company, have qualified for over
one million dollars in sales. Fields
Realty Company is celebrating its
25th year in the real estate
business.

will participate in the White House
conference on small business Feb.

The conference is designed to
give the Georgia small business
community a chance to tell White
house and Small Business officials

Lou Davis, WSB-TV commen
tator, was the recipient of an award
of merit at the recent 29th annual
Green Eyeshade excellence in
journalism awards banquet,
sponsored by the Society of
Professional Journalists, Sigma
Delta Chi. Davis' award was for
his "2 the Point” commentary on
political junkets.

Steven Wlnick, chairman of the
music department at Georgia State
University, has his hands full this
week overseeing 1,000 flying
fingers. Winick is producer of
“Keyboard Kolossus” at 3 p.m.,
Sunday, Feb. II, at the Fox
Theater, a benefit performance for
GSU scholarships, featuring 100
keyboard artists and multiple
keyboard instruments, including
the mighty Fox organ.
