Workmen’s Circle
1 focuses on aging
The Workmen’s Circle will hold
its next regular meeting at 7:30
p.m., Thursday, July 19, in room
two of the AJCC.
Dr. Milton Frank III will speak
on “How to Soften the Conditions
of Aging.” The public is invited to

Organizations
Rabbis Lerner, Davidow join Temple staff
Rabbi Lerner
Rabbi Beverly J. Lerner will give
her first sermon for the Temple on
Friday evening, July 13. She will
be joined on the pulpit by Rabbi
Fred V. Davidow on Friday, July
20.
A native of Kansas City, Mo.,
Rabbi Lerner attended the
University of Texas in Austin
where she majored in journalism.
She was ordained at the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute of
Religion in Cincinnati in June
1979, and served as a student rabbi
with Temple Solomon in
Centralia, Ill., and Temple Oheb
Shalom in Goldsboro, N.C.
She also served as an intern with
the Jewish Community Relations
Council in Cincinnati and was a
member of the Students’ Rabbinic
Organization on Women at HUC,
representing that group on the
Cincinnati Women’s Presidents’
Council.
Rabbi Davidow, who will give
his first sermon for the Temple on
Friday, July 27, was educational
director for Temple Beth Amin
Miami for two years. A graduate
of Tulane University where he
majored in Spanish and literature,
he later received a master’s degree
in education from Delta State
U niversity after a year of graduate
study at Tulane. He was ordained
at HUC-JIR, Cincinnati, and
served his first pulpit at Temple
Beth Israel, in Plattsburgh, N Y.
Rabbi Davidow also has taught
Hebrew language at the State
Rabbi Davidow
University of New York in
Plattsburgh. His sermons and
poems have appeared in the
Journal of the Central Conference
of American Rabbis and in
Pastoral Services.
Rabbi Davidow is married to
the former Susan Mintzer of
Richmond, Va., and they have two
daughters.
JWV ladies attend convention
The national convention of the
Jewish War Veterans and the
Ladies Auxiliaries will be held
Sunday, July 22, through Sunday,
July 29, in San Diego, Calif.
Members of Atlanta Post No.
112, Ladies Auxiliary attending as
official delegates are Eleanor
Schwartz, president; Jeanette
Abgott, Mary Klein, Rose Steine,
and Ida Solomon, past Auxiliary
presidents; and Margaret
Citrenbaum, Sarah Goldberg,
Hannah Hirsch, and Betty
Landau. Mrs. Klein, who now lives
in Oklahoma, has retained her
membership in the Atlanta
Auxiliary and will also attend.
Mrs. Abgott is national awards
chairman and serves on the
national advisory board. She has
held various positions on the
national level and is being
endorsed by the Atlanta group for
the position of national guard.

has membership brunch
Tikvah Hadassah will hold a
membership brunch at II a.m.,

SI welcomes Rabbi Samian
Chattanooga synagogue
appoints Rabbi Adler
Beth Sholom Congregation of
Chattanooga has appointed Rabbi
Jeffrey Adler to the spiritual
leadership of its congregation.
Rabbi Adler will also work in an
advisory capacity with the
Chattanooga Hebrew Day School
and with the Hillel Foundation at
the University of Tennessee in
Chattanooga.
A native of Atlanta, Rabbi
Adler studied at the Yeshiva of the
South in Memphis. He is also a
graduate of Memphis State
University where he studied
political science.
Rabbi Adler is moving to
Chattanooga from Savannah
where he served as youth director
at B’nai B’rith Jacob Synagogue
and on the faculty of the Savannah
Hebrew Day School and the
Savannah Hebrew Community
School. He was also on the faculty
of the Benedictine Military
School and served as rabbi of Beth
Israel Congregation in Vidalia,
Ga. Last summer, he was the
associate director of Camp BHYin
Holly Springs, Miss
Rabbi Samian
Rabbi Arnold Samian,
Congregation Shearith Israel’s
new assistant rabbi/director of
education and youth, will be on the
pulpit for services on Saturday,
July 21. New synagogue officers
will also be installed during
Sabbath services which begin at
8:30 a.m
Rabbi Samian was ordained and
received his bachelor of Hebrew
literature degree from the Hebrew
Theological College in Skokie, III
in 1979. At the same time he
received his master of social work
degree from the University of
Illinois, having received his
undergraduate training in
psychology at Loyola University in
Chicago.
Rabbi Samian has been
involved in many aspects of Jewish
communal life, particularly youth
work. While living in Israel he was
involved in working with the
resettlement of Russian
immigrants. In the Chicago area.
Rabbi Samian served various
synagogues and organizations as
youth and program director. In
addition, he served as acting rabbi
at the Chicago Loop Synagogue
and was the founding rabbi of a
congregation in Buffalo Grove, Ill.
Heading the slate of officers and
board members to be installed are
Kenneth Levensteim, president,
and Leon Tuck, vice president.
Over forty congregational leaders
will be honored.
An Oneg Shabbat in honor of
Rabbi and Mrs. Deborah Samian
will follow. The entire community
is invited to attend.
