Saul, Zimmerman head
Women’s Division drive
Virginia Saul and Harriet
Zimmerman have been named
1980 Campaign co-chairmen of the
Atlanta Jewish Federation
Women’s Division Campaign, it
was announced this week by Ely
Freedman, general chairman of the
1980 Campaign
“Mrs. Saul and Mrs.
Zimmerman have demonstrated
their innovative and effective
leadership during many years of
association with our Women’s
Division,” Freedman said, adding,
“The Women’s Division
Campaign makes a major
contribution to our overall effort,
and I am delighted that these
women have accepted this vital
leadership position.”
Mrs. Saul, in accepting the
position, said, “We feel an intense
sense of challenge, because the
1980 Campaign must surpass any
other in our history. To do this we
will have to function as educators
as well as campaigners. We are
confident that once our
community really understands
the nature and the depth of the
human problems facing the people
of Israel as well as the opportunity
we have to strengthen Jewish life in
our own community, they will
recognized the necessity of increased
giving.”
Mrs. Zimmerman pointed out
that “the women of our
community have their individual
Jewish responsibilities just as the
men do in meeting human needs
through personal gifts to the
Campaign We are confident they
will do their part and support all
previous records.”
Mrs. Saul is the immediate past
president of the Atlanta Chapter of
Hadassah, a position that
she held from 1964-66. She
has been vice president of the
Southeastern Region of Hadassah
and its recording secretary.

Virginia Saul
the Upper Divisions for the

Campaign. She is a member of the
board of directors of the Atlanta
Jewish Federation, the Anti-
Defamation league, American

Historical Society. She was

Computer cuts cost
JERUSALEM (JTA)—The
World Zionist Organization
Executive is about to invest
$60,000 in a computer that will
monitor all telephone calls from
WZO and Jewish Agency
headquarters in an attempt to cut
down soaring telephone bills The
Executive believes the computer
will more than pay for itself within
one year.
According to Yediot Achronot,
the WZO and Jewish Agency
spend almost $1 million a year on
telephone calls. A Jewish Agency
spokesman said that figure was
inaccurate but could not say what
the correct amount is. Apparently
the computer is intended to find
out. It will record the extension
from which the call is made, the
length of the conversation and the
number called.
The WZO Executive decided on
a number of other money-saving
measures in response to the
organization’s difficult financial
situation United Jewish Appeal
and United Israel Appeal income
for the months April-June
reportedly fell by $19 million
compared to the same period last
year.
