Derek Price of Johannesburg,
South Africa, a third year student
in the Faculty of Architecture and
Town Planning at Technion —
Israel Institute of Technology, has
won the William Van Alen,
Architecture, Memorial Fellow
ship Award
The eighth annual international
competition was sponsored by he
National Institute for Architec
tural Education of New York and
attracted 160 entries from
architectural institutes and
universities throughout the world.
The project was to design a Center
for Minoan Studies on the Greek
Island of Sanatorini. Price
designed the winning project,
bringing him $6,000 to be used in
study and/or travel, and honorary
membership in the American
National Institute for Architec
tural Education.

Penny Levetan, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. S. Phillip Levetan of
Atlanta, has returned from
attending the international
convention of Delta Phi Epsilon
sorority in Orlando, Fla Miss
Levetan is the assistant community
service chairman of Psi Chapter at
the University of Georgia in
Athens.
Honored as the sorority’s Man
of the Year was Hal Linden, well-
know stage, screen and television
star, who is a long-time worker on
behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis
Research Foundation which is also
the sorority’s philanthropic
project.

Donald E'ischer
Donald Lawrence E'ischer of
Atlanta has been appointed
assistant area director for the
Florida area of the American
Jewish Committee.
A free-lance writer who is
working for Neighbor Newspa
pers, Fischer has been featured in
Atlanta magazine several other
public and professional journals.
He is active in the Atlanta Jewish
Federation on its Soviet Jewry
Committee and is chairman of the
Forum political affairs committee.
He is also a board member of the
Atlanta Interreligious Task Force
on Soviet Jewry and Human
Rights and a member of the
Atlanta Chapter of the American
Jewish Committee.
The Florida area office, located
in Miami, covers the entire state. It
is supervised by the Southeast
regional office in Atlanta.

Michele Steinberg, a student at
Yeshiva High School for the past
four years, will spend her senior
year of high school at Michlalat
Bruiah in Jerusalem. She plans to
continue her education in Israel
and to eventually teach Torah
there. Michele is the daughter of
Bess Steinberg of Atlanta and the
late Marc Steinberg.

Stephen Rosenfeld, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rosenfeld of
Atlanta, will enter Albert Einstein
Medical School this fall. A
member of Yeshiva High School’s
first graduating class, he received a
bachelor of Talmudic law degree
from Ner Israel Rabbinical
College and a bachelor of science
degree with honors from Johns
Hopkins University. Stephen is the
grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Rosenfeld and Mrs. Esther

president and general manager of
WSB Radio, will participate in the
1979 Radio Broadcasters
Conference and Exposition of the
National Radio Broadcasters
Association to be held Oct. 7-10, in
Washington, D.C.
Ellis, a former chairman and
director of NRBA, will discuss
adult contemporary programming
in a panel session on Oct. 9. along
with other broadcasting executives
from San Francisco, Las Vegas
Boston and Los Angeles.

Temple. Stacy is the daughter of

Judge H. Sol Clark of Savannah
was named president of Scribes, a
prestigious national organization
of legal writers. Clark, who has
been a member of Scribes for 16
years, was the first Jewish judge
appointed to the Georgia Court of
Appeals. He retired from the
bench in 1976.

Ronald Harris of Atlanta will take

Frankel of Atlanta will take place

Newly elected officers of Sons of
Zion AZA include Jonathan
Seidel, president, Neil Turry, vice
president; Mike Siegel, treasurer;
and Brian Shemaria, secretary.
The Jewish War Veterans of
the U.S.A. recently elected
Harris B. Stone of Alexandria,
Vi., as their national
commander. Stone, director of
the Research and Development
Plans Division in the Office of
the Chief of Naval operations at
the Pentagon, was unanimous
ly elected to the highest office of
JWV at the conclusion of the
organization's 84th national
convention held in San Diego,
Calif.
Stone holds degrees in
electrical engineering and
industrial economics from the
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. He entered federal
employment in 1953 as an
electronics engineer at the
Electronic Welfare Center in
New Jersey. Stone served with
the Army in World War II an
the Korean conflict, rising
through the enlisted ranks to
Commissioned Officer status.
Stone was awarded the U.S.
NaVy’s highest honor—the
Distinguished Civilian Service
Award—on Oct. 23, 1978, for
his achievements and
leadership in developing a
successful method for planning
the Navy Research and
Development Program.
Stone has served the Jewish
War Veterans in various
capacities for many years. His
past offices include chairman of
the national board of inquiry,
vice chairman of the national
executive committee and
national public affairs
committee, and 10 years as a
national executive committee
man. He is past Post
commander and quarter
master of Robert L. Cohen
Post 589 and past department
commander of the District of
Columbia. He is presently a
member of the Robert L.
Cohen Post No. 589.
Stone is the president of
Arlington-Fairfax Congrega
tion in Alexandria. He is
married to the former Ray
Masin of New York City and
they have two sons, Steven and
Richard.
